Machine Learning. The A.I. Revolution Is On | Magazine. Today’s A.I. bears little resemblance to its initial conception. The field’s trailblazers believed success lay in mimicking the logic-based reasoning that human brains were thought to use. Photo: Dwight Eschliman; Illustration: Zee Rogér Diapers.com warehouses are a bit of a jumble. Boxes of pacifiers sit above crates of onesies, which rest next to cartons of baby food. But the warehouses aren’t meant to be understood by humans; they were built for bots. The computers are in control. The Kiva bots may not seem very smart. This explosion is the ironic payoff of the seemingly fruitless decades-long quest to emulate human intelligence. All aboard the algorithm. Model trains are easy to keep track of. What they got was the Princeton Locomotive and Shop Management System, or Plasma, which used an algorithmic strategy to analyze Norfolk Southern’s operations.

The model that Powell and his team came up with was, in effect, a kind of AI hive mind. —Jon Stokes. But we must learn to adapt. Facebook to See a Surge of Artificial Intelligence in the Near Future? Artificial Intelligence has a big future. At least that's what one of Russia's biggest web tycoon says. And it won't only be used for the robots of your dreams: The Internet's social networking future will have a large AI component, too.

That's right--in the future, you may end up friending AI. Yury Millner is the chap in question here, a famously media-shy person who rarely grants interviews. So what did Millner say? This is a pretty bold suggestion, but it's backed up by some solid science. AI is booming at the moment, and Facebook (and its contemporaries, like Twitter) is an excellent platform on which to test AI--there is a wealth of conversational data in all languages, perfectly suited to honing an AI's talents. MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Game Theory -Is there an ideal strategy for winning the war on t. Before the events of September 11th, my plan was to do October's essay on game theory. After September 11th, I decided to do something mathematical as it relates to the events.

My first thought was to focus on rare scares and rare scare mongering that is going on in reaction to the terrorist attacks. I abandoned the idea, for now, for three reasons: 1.) It may seem a bit too insensitive to talk about reactionary policy so soon after the tragedy that caused the policies, 2.) There really is not enough data to prove my case at this point, 3.) Junkscience.com beat me to the punch with a well written warning against bad policies . So back to the original plan: Game Theory . I mentioned in a previous essay that the Game Theory/Cold War relationship can be found in the movies Dr. What is Game Theory? Basically, Game Theory is the mathematics of strategy. Obviously, there is a huge difference between predicting tic-tac-toe outcomes and stock market outcomes. Non-random vs. Zero Sum vs. Etc. Tie. Background | Research | Publications | Activities | Random Background Until recently, I was a Ph.D. student in the department of EECS at MIT. I am presently a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Media Lab, and I'll be joining the Media Lab faculty in 2007. My research is focused on finding ways to give computers human-like common sense, the ability to think about the everyday world like people do.

I believe this will enable a new generation of computing systems that will be much more powerful and friendly than those based on present-day technologies. I am actively pushing a project at the Media Lab to develop programs capable of commonsense thinking. This is a very hands-on effort to build a suite of commonsense knowledge bases, inference engines, and architectural elements for linking these together, as well as new kinds of applications built on these technologies. My long-term goal is to understand how minds work, so that I can construct a machine that thinks. Research Open Mind. Laboratori Ninibe.
