During his/her EVS activity, the volunteer will integrate our team of staff members which is currently composed of 8 employees, 4 males and 4 females with an average age of 30 years old. All the projects are in Reykjavík even though their location may vary depending on what project in particular is in discussion. The volunteer might be placed in a host family if he/she so chooses otherwise the volunteer will share a flat with other volunteers here in Iceland through AUS. The flat is located very central only 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre and the Red Cross office. The flat is on two floors in a semi attached house. There are 2 other flats in the house, on the ground floor and in the basement. We have a big farm building with an area of more than 1000m2 rearranged to temple, kitchen, dining-room, dormitories, other rooms, conference rooms, library, yoga-room, and storages. Good to know for you is that the inhabitants of the village avoid eating meat, fish and eggs, sex outside marriage, gambling and intoxication. Project Environment Volunteers at Hannahemmet will have Rural Life Finland rf (RLF) as the coordinating organisation. RLF will take care of practical arrangements like accommodation, meals and transport, as well as work tasks for the days when the volunteers do not work with us.
The planned four volunteer will work in average 1 day per person in Hannahemmet, preferable in pairs. The volunteers will be mainly living ca 1.5 km from Hannahemmet, at Stusnäs, Kemiönsaari, where RLF is based. Kemiönsaari is a municipality with ca 7200 inhabitants in the southwest of Finland consisting of a main island and an archipelago of smaller islands. Stusnäs is on the main island, which is accessible by bridges. The participants will move by bicycle, bus, train and ferry. The volunteers will live in a small house on the beach at Stusnäs.
The volunteers will work at RLF, its partner NGO:s and at Hannahemmet. Already at the application stage we aim to know, except for the partners, also the volunteers. Klúbburinn Geysir - centre for mentally ill people | European Youth Portal. Project Environment Klúbburinn Geysir is a place where people who have had mental illness come to rebuild their lives. The participants are called members, not patients and the focus is on their strengths not their illness. Work in the clubhouse, whether it is clerical, data input, meal preparation or reaching out to their fellow members, provides the core healing process. Every opportunity provided is the result of the efforts of the members and small staff, who work side by side, in a unique partnership. One of the most important steps members take toward greater independence is transitional employment, where they work in the community at real jobs.
