Production legend Jack Douglas on 18 career-defining records

It wasn't even when he posed with his first multi-platinum award – and he has tons of those too. It was back in the late '60s, when, as a low-paid "general worker" at the Record Plant Studios in New York, he encountered rock royalty. Yet, he changed the music business and popularized a method of listening that is convenient, but not necessarily the best sounding. Have you ever done a blind test between vinyl and digital music?

I was lucky enough to do one at Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs and it was a sad awakening. The vinyl sounded three dimensional, warm, full, like music. Listening to vinyl was like walking through a forest, the music was all around me, like trees. Yup, a compromise. What do you think? IN PRAISE OF: Epiphone Casino. KCRW Presents: Diamond Rings.
