An ability to identify people on the Spectrum presents one potential hazard -- abusers who stalk people with disabilities. Fortunately such abusers are rare. It is possible (and very easy) to protect oneself from abusers who stalk by being alert for warning signs of these people. ("The Spectrum" generally means the autism Spectrum, including Asperger's syndrome, HFA, PDD and Kanner's autism. Many of us are comfortable with the generic reference of "autistic".)

Posttraumatic stress disorder [ note 1 ] ( PTSD ) is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event that results in psychological trauma . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] This event may involve the threat of death to oneself or to someone else, or to one's own or someone else's physical, sexual, or psychological integrity, [ 1 ] overwhelming the individual's ability to cope . As an effect of psychological trauma , PTSD is less frequent and more enduring than the more commonly seen acute stress response . Diagnostic symptoms for PTSD include re-experiencing the original trauma(s) through flashbacks or nightmares , avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma, and increased arousal —such as difficulty falling or staying asleep, anger , and hypervigilance . Formal diagnostic criteria (both DSM-IV-TR and ICD-10 ) require that the symptoms last more than one month and cause significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Compassion fatigue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Compassion fatigue (also known as a secondary traumatic stress disorder ) is a condition characterised by a gradual lessening of compassion over time. It is common among trauma victims and individuals that work directly with trauma victims. It was first diagnosed in nurses in the 1950s. [ 1 ] Sufferers can exhibit several symptoms including hopelessness, a decrease in experiences of pleasure, constant stress and anxiety, and a pervasive negative attitude. This can have detrimental effects on individuals, both professionally and personally, including a decrease in productivity, the inability to focus, and the development of new feelings of incompetency and self doubt. [ 2 ] Journalism analysts argue that the media has caused widespread compassion fatigue in society by saturating newspapers and news shows with often decontextualized images and stories of tragedy and suffering . This has caused the public to become cynical, or become resistant to helping people who are suffering. [ 3 ]APAH believes that a safe, affordable place to call home is something that everyone deserves. After purchasing a property, we initiate renovations to the apartments as well as the common grounds. These extensive renovations not only enhance living conditions and beautify exterior surroundings, but also ensure that APAH properties comply with building code, safety and environmental regulations.

Most of the following information was condensed from several pages of the REVIVE web site at http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~revive/index.html [Dead Link — the web site is gone] Even though some of this information appears to have been tailored to fit Alcoholics Anonymous, it has not. This is just your generic run-of-the-mill cult description. In fact, the major concern of the Revive web site is currently a new cult called "International Churches of Christ" that is sweeping campuses. They don't even mention A.A..Into to Cults 101 - Christian Recovery Forums

A recent study further establishes that PMDD is biologically different, and that women with PMDD who have experienced depression could make up a subset. The findings are important because they give physicians more reason to search for a more specific diagnosis and could possibly lead to more precise treatments, of which there are currently few good choices, said Susan Girdler, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine who led the study. "PMDD is not garden-variety premenstrual symptoms. PMDD causes severe impairment in quality of life, equivalent to post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder and panic disorder, that continually cycles on a monthly basis.
