Consumer Group Warns Against Consuming Splenda. In response to the study, the consumer group The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is recommended that people avoid consuming sucralose, more popularly known as Splenda.
In the study, 457 male mice and 396 female Swiss mice were given feed containing varying concentrations of sucralose from the 12th day of gestation until death. When just 6.7% of the mice remained alive, after the rest had reached their natural lifespan, the remaining mice were euthanized and the organs were collected for analysis. The researchers found a significant dose-related incidence of malignant tumors and hematopoietic neoplasias in male mice, particularly at 2,000 and 16,000 ppm. The team acknowledges that the reason for the increase in malignant tumors cold be attributable to the 20% decrease in mean body weight in both sexes of the mice that were given the highest levels of sucralose. New Study Links Aspartame To Metabolic Disease & Digestive Tract Abnormalities. It remains fairly common for people to believe they are choosing the ‘healthier’ option when reaching for a diet soda instead of the regular one, but research has been surfacing over the past few years which suggests consuming artificial sweeteners might not be the best idea either.
Of course, this does not mean that we should return to regular sodas instead, as the amount of sugar found in these drinks is literally deadly; sugar represents a major contributing factor in the prevalence of multiple chronic diseases which continue to plague the Western population. Non-caloric artificial sweeteners (NAS) are the most widely used food additives in the world, and they are considered safe despite the concerns that have been raised by multiple studies.

Chronic aspartame consumption altered the neuronal function and neurodegeneration in brain. Observed changes may be due to the methanol or its metabolite. Long-term FDA approved daily acceptable intake (40 mg/kg bwt) aspartame administration distorted the brain function and generated apoptosis in brain regions. Abstract. Is Roundup Weedkiller A Brain-Damaging Neurotoxin? Sayer Ji, GreenMedInfoWaking Times A new study reveals a hitherto unknown mechanism behind how the world’s most popular GMO herbicide harms the brain.
Remarkably, despite Roundup® herbicide’s widespread approval around the world, the most basic mechanisms through which it exerts toxicity towards non-target animal species (including humans) have yet to be adequately characterized. Concerned about Brazil’s status as the largest global consumer of pesticides since 2008, researchers sought to elucidate toxicologic effects of these agrochemicals in humans. Their new study, published in the journal Toxicology, provides a proposed mechanism for the adverse neurological effects of Roundup® (a glyphosate-based herbicide). It is has been observed that agrochemical exposure can lead to, or accelerate, neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
The summarization of their results, looking at the effects of both acute and chronic exposure, were reported as follows: Diet Sodas May Contribute to Weight Gain and Diabetes Risk, Data Suggest. More bad news, diet soda drinkers: data presented recently at the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Scientific Sessions suggest that diet drinks may actually contribute to weight gain and that the artificial sweeteners in them could potentially contribute Type 2 diabetes.
In one study, researchers from the School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, looked at aggregate data from 474 older adults in the San Antonio Longitudinal Study of Aging, or SALSA. At the time of enrollment and at three follow-up exams thereafter, all participants reported their diet soda intake and were measured for height, weight and waist circumference. The researchers wanted to track any association between diet soda drinking and body fat over time.
MSGTruth.org. Concerning Study: High-Fructose Corn Syrup More Toxic than Sugar, Reduces Lifespan. MIKE BARRETT | Naturalsociety | Jan 6th 2014 The commonly used ingredient high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has been linked to numerous health issues, leading countless individuals to shun any products containing the ingredient.
Well new research shows that this is in fact the right move, finding that consuming high fructose corn syrup in ‘normal’ quantities is more toxic than sucrose or table sugar, leading to a reduced lifespan and hampered reproduction. The study showed that when fed a diet containing 25% of calories from added fructose and glucose carbohydrates found in corn syrup, female mice died at a rate 1.87 times higher than female mice on a diet in which 25% of calories came from sucrose (table sugar).
