Wednesday’s event consists of classes covering everything from legal issues in the music industry to technological mechanics to business development, with breaks in between designed for networking. Speakers include representatives from major labels such as Warner Music Group and Big Machine Records. Neurotic Media CEO Shachar Oren and Bormen Entertainment Head of Business Development Cameo Carlson are also scheduled.

Spotify or Rhapsody? ~ LockerGnome Social Media & Technology

Whether you choose Rhapsody or Spotify boils down to how and from whom you like to discover new music. With Spotify, you either select songs you already know about, or trust the musical tastes and styles of your friends to find new music. With a subscription to Rhapsody, you also can pick and play songs on demand, but you have a much broader network with likely more varied tastes to discover new tunes. If you know you’re only going to like what your friends listen to, and vice versa, Spotify is likely your best bet.
YouTube has revamped its music page, adding a brand-new layout and a slew of new features. Although the video-sharing site boasts that its redesign will help users discover new music, we can’t say that Pandora will be shaking in its boots any time soon. According to the YouTube blog , the redesign of the page will facilitate musical discovery by “showcas[ing] the most viewed music videos, special promotions, curated playlists, unsigned talent and giv[ing] you the ability to create on-the-fly mixes.” It even states that the site will soon feature live music listings in a section titled “Events Near You,” an addition that sounds pretty cool to us (and like a potential threat to MySpace , which also offers such features). http://mashable.com/2010/07/22/youtube-music-redesign/
