Muve Music, which with 2 million subscribers is one of the most successful paid music services in the US, is on the auction block according to sources. The bidding process has already begun. But if no buyer is found, owner AT&T says it will likely shut Muve down. Created and marketed by Cricket Wireless, Muve grew quickly after its 2011 launch to more than 2 million subscribers last year. But since AT&T bought Cricket's parent company Leap, the future of Muve has been uncertain. AT&T has invested heavily in a partnership with Beats Music, leaving little room for another music service.

Yesterday, while not commenting on the sale, an AT&T spokesperson admitted that Muve was unlikely to be part of the wireless carrier's future music plans. There have been no leaks yet as to who might bid for Muve. Sloane @ Omni Hotel- Nashville. Sloane @ The Entrepreneur Center 2.0. Music Monday: The CES Soundtrack. Henry Rollins: Music is Powerful, but it Can't Stop a War. | Think Tank. I hate a song that makes you think that you are not any good. I hate a song that makes you think that you are just born to lose.

Bound to lose. No good to nobody. No good for nothing. Because you are too old or too young or too fat or too slim too ugly or too this or too that. There's a great scene in Woody Guthrie's book Bound for Glory in which he remembers a train hopping episode that happened in his twenties. Anyway, on one particular train, a white guy started harassing a black guy – beating him up and cursing at him for being black.

This is a long-winded intro – on the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie's birth – to something writer and musician Henry Rollins told us recently: that music's power extends far, but only so far, and that this is maybe especially so in the age of super pop-stardom. Maybe so – but, as Rollins points out, what music can do is plant a seed – of pretty much whatever the musician wants it to: hate, love, hope, despair. LiveMusicStage Scores New Angel Round. Music Start Up Academy to bring entrepreneurs together. Next week, Music Row will play host to a Music Start Up Academy that intends to marry two of Nashville’s fiercest competitors: music and technology. Wednesday’s event consists of classes covering everything from legal issues in the music industry to technological mechanics to business development, with breaks in between designed for networking. Speakers include representatives from major labels such as Warner Music Group and Big Machine Records. Neurotic Media CEO Shachar Oren and Bormen Entertainment Head of Business Development Cameo Carlson are also scheduled. “Nashville has the perfect elements to be one of the nation’s leaders in music technology,” said Steve Bogard, one of the organizers. “It’s my goal to bring these communities together so that Nashville becomes a big center for music and technology together, as opposed to an adversarial relationship.”

YouTube Looks to Compete in Music Discovery. YouTube has revamped its music page, adding a brand-new layout and a slew of new features. Although the video-sharing site boasts that its redesign will help users discover new music, we can't say that Pandora will be shaking in its boots any time soon. According to the YouTube blog, the redesign of the page will facilitate musical discovery by "showcas[ing] the most viewed music videos, special promotions, curated playlists, unsigned talent and giv[ing] you the ability to create on-the-fly mixes.

" It even states that the site will soon feature live music listings in a section titled "Events Near You," an addition that sounds pretty cool to us (and like a potential threat to MySpace, which also offers such features). Still, the site isn't so hot when it comes to helping one discover new music. Yes, YouTube is the go-to place for folks who just want to listen to that one song they heard at that show by that band that they kinda like. What do you think of YouTube's redesign?
