Infrared images reveal lost pyramids. 26th May 2011 More than 1,000 unexcavated tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements have been discovered by archaeologists in a satellite survey of Egypt The team from the University of Alabama uncovered the ruins when studying a series of images that revealed the hidden buildings underground.
The images were captured using infrared cameras, located on satellites 700km from the earth's surface. Team leader Dr Sarah Parcak told the BBC she was amazed at how much they had found, “I could see the data as it was emerging, but for me the 'aha' moment was later, when I could step back and look at everything that we'd found – I couldn't believe we could locate so many sites all over Egypt.
