Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, in 1564. Very little is known about his life, but by 1592 he was in London working as an actor and a dramatist. Between about 1590 and 1613, Shakespeare wrote at least 37 plays and collaborated on several more. Many of these plays were very successful both at court and in the public playhouses. In 1613, Shakespeare retired from the theatre and returned to Stratford-upon-Avon. What did he write? Shakespeare wrote plays and poems. What are the quartos? Shakespeare’s plays began to be printed in 1594, probably with his tragedy Titus Andronicus. Why are the quartos important? None of Shakespeare’s manuscripts survives, so the printed texts of his plays are our only source for what he originally wrote. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.

This is why the April 23 date has been adopted as his officially recognized birthday. When Shakespeare left his home in Stratford-upon-Avon for London, it is rumoured that he had to leave because he was caught poaching (hunting illegally).

William Shakespeare’s writings have been translated into more languages than those of any other author. Shakespeare is credited with 39 plays, including Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Julius Caesar. Cardenio is the name of a play that was written by Shakespeare, and performed while he was alive, but there is no copy of this play surviving today. He most likely attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford, where he learned Latin grammar and literature. In 1582, he married 26 year-old Anne Hathaway at the age of 18. In 1583, William’s first child, Susanna was born. In 1585, he had twins, Hamlet and Judith. Between 1589 and 1590, William is believed to have written his first play, Henry VIII (part I). By 1592, William had begun a career as a playwright in London. After writing Julius Caesar in 1599, Shakespeare is thought to have written Hamlet, historically thought of as his greatest masterpiece. To be or not to be, that is the question — Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing, end them. After Hamlet, Shakespeare wrote several other timeless classics such as Macbeth, Othello, and The Tempest.
