Home. M.roadtrippers. The history of the land that St Albans was built on begins in 1775 with The Draper Meadow Massacre.

This murder of five people, including an infant child, set the tone for the darkness that has become the legacy of the imposing complex. The St. Albans Lutheran Boys School was built in 1892, and quickly developed a reputation for being a rough and competitive school where bullying was not only condoned, it was encouraged. Pennhurst Asylum: The Shame of Pennsylvania. The History and Horror of Pennhurst Asylum By Matt Lake, Rusty Tagliareni and Mark Moran Back in the mid 1960s, fledgling TV reporter Bill Baldini ran a five-episode exposé of Pennhurst State School and Hospital on Philadelphia’s TV10 (now an NBC affiliate).

Creepy While researching our book Haunted Asylums, Prisons, and Sanatoriums (available for purchase online—links in the bio blurb at the end), co-author Sam Queen and I had a wish list of the best ghost hunt locations in the United States.

10 Creepy Ghost Hunt Venues

Due to budget and time constraints, not every location we wanted to visit could be included. Below, I list our top 10 picks for public ghost hunts that didn’t make the book. I would also encourage readers to explore the websites of each location to discover a variety of non-ghost hunting activities that might appeal to you. Very often, these locations are nonprofits operated by foundations for the purpose of conserving the historic buildings. 10Rolling Hills AsylumEast Bethany, New York A former workhouse, with the oldest part of the building dating back to 1828, Rolling Hills has seen its share of unfortunate residents—it also served as an insane asylum. 9Peoria AsylumBartonville, Illinois 8Old South Pittsburg HospitalSouth Pittsburg, Tennessee. Asylum Attendant. Eloise Asylum is a huge part of my life.

Asylum Attendant

As the Asylum Attendant, this is the only home I will ever know. Lately, Eloise has been on my mind a lot. I thought I would share a little history behind the asylum and of course some creepy photos. Eloise began as a poorhouse in 1839 in Westland, Michigan. At first, Eloise had very few residents (only 35 to begin with). Eloise was essentially its own self-sustaining city. Overcrowding quickly became a problem at Eloise, but it was fine because some patients just ended up sleeping on the floor. 125 women would have to share 5 toilets.

There was also television therapy. Eloise closed in 1984 and most of the buildings were demolished. To lighten the mood, here is an Emilie Autumn performance. Like this: Like Loading... A Haunting At Linda Vista Community Hospital. The possible ghost of a young girl at Linda Vista.

A Haunting At Linda Vista Community Hospital

PHOTO BY THOMAS MAYHEW By Thomas Mayhew CONTRIBUTOR We were walking through the dark, eerie dungeon-like basement of an old hospital. I had read publications marking it as one of the most haunted establishments in America. Linda Vista Community Hospital, located in the rough neighborhood of East LA, is a place that’s been abandoned for over twenty years, and one particularly recognized for the paranormal presence residing within it.

Adventuring through abandoned buildings or urban exploring, has been my hobby for years. Fall Break brought me to southern California with my friend Joe McGannon who recently moved there. The corridors were long, but I made it a point to enter every room possible.

Top 10 Most Likely To Be REAL Hauntings. First, let’s look at what constitutes a “haunting.”

Top 10 Most Likely To Be REAL Hauntings

To us, there are two main categories for ghost / spirit hauntings… Residual Hauntings A residual haunting, by far the most common type of haunting, is a haunting in which the ghostly energy goes through a cycle of actions – thus repeating itself over and over again. Typically, these ghostly actions play out at specific times / dates, as though they were following a schedule. Oftentimes, the event playing out will be that of a tragedy or horrific scene – such as a death or murder. Residual hauntings have been said to be more like a psychic impression of energy – rather than an actual haunting of a physical presence or being. Haunted Mental Health Hospital in Virginia. By Kevin (Virginia) The building was built in 1892.

Haunted Mental Health Hospital in Virginia

It was originally a school until it was converted to a mental health facility in the early 1900's. It's now abandoned. The place is HUGE and very cool if nothing else. We did an investigation with two cameras and a voice recorder. Again, all of these were cross-referenced with the camera audio which picked up nothing of the sorts (it's an HV30 camera which has a very sensitive mic.) The most startling evidence was when we left our cameras set up inside and left for 20 minutes. Lillian Collins Hospital » Real Haunted Houses. Originally the Sierra Building In the 1920′s, this was a small town hospital that cared for the citizens of Turlock, California.

Lillian Collins Hospital » Real Haunted Houses

According to a recent ghost hunting expedition done by American Paranormal Investigations, it seems that the building still cares for their spirits, though both their bodies and the hospital are long gone. Built in 1918, The Lillian Collins Hospital was located in what is now the Sierra Building and currently contains Coldwell Banker Endsley & Associates.
