If TV Science was more like REAL Science

You may have noticed the huge banner above each comic. I apologies if it's too big, but I'm very excited to announce that my new book is on sale! We Have No Idea is a fun and accessible book about the Universe and how little we know of it. It's full of clear and fun explanations and cartoons. I spent a whole year working with physicist Daniel Whiteson to create the book, so it would be awesome if you took a moment to check it out and consider buying it! When we wrote it, we were inspired to make a book that doesn't just talk about what we know, but also what we don't know about the Universe.

So take a look, and consider buying it for yourself or gifting it to a friend or family member who is graduating! Thank you all for supporting all my crazy efforts (movies, videos, books) over the years! -Jorge WE HAVE NO IDEA Release! And check out the book tour map and come see us at one of many fun events! Så löser larverna mordgåtor. Forensic science: a beginner’s guide. Evidence Suggests Missing Students In Mexico Were Not Incinerated By A Drug Cartel. One of the world’s leading experts in fire forensics says the Mexican government’s account of the fate of 43 students that went missing in September 2014 is “impossible”, adding to the suspicion that a state cover-up may be afoot.

Evidence Suggests Missing Students In Mexico Were Not Incinerated By A Drug Cartel

According to the Mexican attorney general, the students were murdered by members of a drug cartel before being incinerated at a trash dump, but Jose Torero from the University of Queensland says the evidence suggests otherwise. The students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College had hijacked five buses in order to travel to a protest in Mexico City commemorating the massacre of up to 300 students in 1968. However, members of the Guerreros Unidos cartel later claimed to have ambushed the students in the town of Iguala with the help of local police, who were supposedly acting under orders from the local mayor.

The contents of these bags were completely charred, with virtually all of the organic matter having been burned away.

Unit 6, Lecture 3 - DNA Fingerprinting. PCR. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a method to rapidly amplify sequences of DNA.

During a typical PCR, template DNA (containing the region of interest) is mixed with deoxynucleotides (dNTPs), a DNA polymerase and primers. Primers are short segments of complimentary DNA that base-pair with the template DNA upstream of the region of interest and serve as recruitment sites for the polymerase. PCR involves a series of temperature cycles that, although once conducted by moving tubes through various water baths, is now controlled automatically by the use of thermal cyclers, or thermocyclers. Thermocyclers provide tight control over both the reaction temperature and the duration of each temperature step, ensuring efficient amplification. During a typical PCR, cycles of denaturation, annealing and extension are repeated to achieve exponential amplification of the target sequence. Objectives: In this simulation you will examine crime scene evidence to determine who is responsible for eating the Queen's special imported Lindbergher Cheese (yes, the stinky cheese).

You will model the process of electrophoresis and DNA fingerprinting.

Virtual Labs. PCR. Primers are short pieces of DNA that are made in a laboratory.

Since they're custom built, primers can have any sequence of nucleotides you'd like. In a PCR experiment, two primers are designed to match to the segment of DNA you want to copy. Through complementary base pairing, one primer attaches to the top strand at one end of your segment of interest, and the other primer attaches to the bottom strand at the other end. In most cases, 2 primers that are 20 or so nucleotides long will target just one place in the entire genome. PCR. DNA Fingerprinting. DNA Fingerprinting. Gel Electrophoresis.
