The Los Angeles Times has a great interactive graphic that walks you through the last ten years in same-sex marriage legislation, state by state. While the battles to secure same-sex marriage rights in places like California and Massachussets have gotten a lot of attention, there have been parallel (and less publicized) efforts to ammend state constitutions to ban it in the South and the plains states.
