View topic - Why your Gulf Stream Cavalier FEMA trailer has roof leaks. I would not have expect a four year old trailer to have roof leaks, but after having this 2006 Cavalier home for a few weeks and crawling around and under it, I noticed soft paneling in the rear corners.

Sure enough, roof leaks. I removed the shower surround to get to the interior of the walls. The more I removed the worse it got. Wet swollen particleboard beneath the tub, black and spongy 2x2 studs, wet insulation. I tried the quick fix to the roof: Proflex RV caulk. Finally had to remove the aluminum cap molding on the top rear edge, on both vertical edges near the roof, and both gutter molding on both sides in order to do the forensics necessary to determine the root cause of the leaks. Airstream

It is a division of Thor Industries. The company, which now employs more than 475 people, is the oldest in the industry. Airstream trailers are easily recognized by the distinctive shape of their rounded aluminum bodies. History[edit] The company was created by Wally Byam, a lawyer by training, who began building trailers out of Masonite in his backyard in Los Angeles during the late 1920s.[1] Byam published a magazine selling "how-to" kits to customers wishing to build their own trailers.

In 1974 Airstream began manufacturing a Class A motorhome, badged "Argosy".[5] They began as painted 20- and 24-foot (6.1 and 7.3 m) models, and were followed in 1979 by the first examples of the Classic model motorhome, with an unpainted aluminum body much like the trailers. Nothing completes the look and utility of a restored vintage trailer, like a new canvas awning or canopy.

Hundreds of great striped color combinations are available in durable canvas fabrics that will keep looking bold and bright, even after countless seasons of exposure to direct sunlight. Fabricators can sew up a large custom awning for the side of your vintage trailer as well as smaller awnings, in matching fabric, to shade the windows. As you can see from the reference photos below, most vintage trailer owners also choose to have their custom awning enhanced with a fancy scalloped or fringed edging detail. Whatever style and stripe colors you choose, you'll be amazed how your new awning creates an "outdoor living room" you can enjoy with family and friends, safe from blistering sun or chilly rainshowers that would otherwise put a cramp on outdoor camping fun.

I agree the best method would be to remove the shell from the frame and add some new framing in, however if I was to do that I think I'd just put in a new floor anyway, if I'm going to go that deep probably best to do a solid fix instead of building on the older floor.

However I was hoping to reinforce the floor without needing to remove the shell. Im a bit torn because while I'm not 100% satisfied with the strength of the floor and the uneven surface, I am also not convinced it isnt haha. Although the floor has a bit of flex it seems solid and there is no signs of rot underneath. I figure if the floor has lasted 30 odd years it is fairly well put together?
