Most Marketers Clueless About Social Media Conversations | Social Media Examiner
Alterian’s 8 th annual survey of marketers examined the changes affecting marketing professionals today. The results below show a developing shift—one that’s moving away from the typical broadcasting we’ve seen in social media’s early days and moving more toward higher engagement. According to the survey, marketers admit to struggling with customer engagement on multiple channels. If you’re running social media efforts for your business, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve at least tried a free monitoring tool like TweetDeck . But n ew social media management tools are popping up like weeds and a couple of them might end up being roses. One new such tool is SproutSocial.com . SproutSocial was launched last November and represents a big step up in terms of performance for a modest monthly fee of $9/month —a fee you may or may not be ready to pay.

Survey Says: Rethink Your Social Media Marketing Strategy | BNET
Most small business owners I speak to feel their social media marketing efforts don't produce tangible results. It turns out their feelings are on target: According to a recent survey by ForeSee Results of 10,000 online shoppers, social media interactions are the primary influence for only 5% of the people who visit retail websites. Surprisingly (at least to me) promotional emails are a very powerful marketing tool that result in an extremely high likelihood to purchase, both offline and online. And customers seem glad to get those emails: 64% of respondents say they prefer to hear about sales and promotions by email, while only 8% want to be notified through Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. (The actual percentage varies somewhat, depending on the company.)60 Informative Social Networking and Social Media Infographics | CreativeFan
Infographics have become the method of choice to communicate data, facts, figures and statistics about a given topic. Social media has fueled their growth and popularity, and there have been a large number of social media infographics created over the past year. Whether you’re interested in analyzing the growth and history of social networking , or you want to break down a given social network and analyze it, there are plenty of social networking infographics to provide all the data you could need, in an easy to read format.Perhaps, it’s the wrong question to ask however. It’s not unlike asking who owns email. But, here’s another question and as we think about it, let’s broaden our perspective as the answer may not appear immediately. If that is the case, then examining how social media is run today is not at all how businesses should think about it tomorrow. A not so long answer to the original question is “any person or department affected by outside activity where public interaction impacts decisions.” Businesses tend to have a single or narrow view of the customer and as we’re learning, they’re connecting with one another and sharing experiences that transform their roles from prospect to advocate to adversary to influencer and everything in between.
Social Media and the Need for New Business Models Brian Solis
The realm of social media on the web is limitless. Social media is playing an increasingly prominent role in our society. Facebook , for example, has more than 600 million users as of January 2011, and it's increasing daily. [1] There have been a number of occasions in evidence already where social media has been put to wide use as a way of spurring political or social change, including the U.S. Republican congressional gains in the Nov 2010 elections, [2] , the election of the first black U.S. president, Barack Obama, in 2008, [3] the 2010 Iranian elections, trying to free Sakineh from being stoned to death in violation of human rights laws, [4] challenging the slow response and lackluster sense of responsibility of BP and government officials during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, [5] to the latest pushes for change sweeping the Arab world in Tunisia, Algeria [6] , Egypt, [7] and Libya. The last two years I have been travelling quite a lot for work, and although I love being in new and different places the disruptive aspect of travelling is not something I am very fond of. I don’t think I am the only one who feels this way and I see this as a huge opportunity space for both the travel and hospitality industries to make the travelers experience more pleasurable with a little help of some social media magic. Great cases like @KLM Surprise Campaign showcase how social media can delight a traveler’s experience. But it wasn’t until my last trip to Palo Alto, where I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel, that I had a firsthand experience with customer engagement through social media. Before arriving at the Four Seasons I posted a tweet where I mentioned @FSPaloAlto and expressed how much I was looking forward to relaxing at their spa after the long journey. To my big surprise @FSPaloAlto replied to my tweet fairly quickly asking me if they should make reservations! How to Create Facebook Fan Page Alerts | The Social Media Guide
