House dr. Ceci n’est pas une porte – This is not a door A farm that is no longer a farm, a gate that is no longer a gate. The project expresses the intriguing conflict between making references to the past and yearning for innovation. The original oak wood entry gate to the farmyard was permanently closed off. Still, the gate has retained its function as a boundary and a passage way, now used within the living and working space.
Recycled Metal Furniture from Scrap Car Hoods. Owners of classic cars must suffer terribly if their vehicle becomes simply too rusted, dusted and dilapidated to survive any longer. But like treasures from a sinking ship, the Weld House is making an art out of recycling trash: converting old car parts into beautiful new furniture designs. In some cases the rust and weather patterns on the metal are enough to make for an incredibly unique piece of custom-built furniture, while in other instances there is already some form of art present on the vehicle which becomes memorialized in the resulting work. When polished and finished, one might never guess the origins of these amazing pieces – primarily tables – and suspect they were the result of some kind of intentional process designed to create more visual interest and variety on the surfaces.
Of course, the results come in as many colors and shades as cars do so each piece tends to be quite different from the next. So who is behind all of this? First and foremost we would like to thank our friend and founder of Room Service design store in Greece, Katerina Xynogala for providing us with the necessary information regarding The Cement Factory, which is featured in the latest Room Service catalogue. The Cement Factory was discovered in 1973, it was an abandoned cement factory and partially in ruins, comprised of over 30 silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms; Ricardo Bofill bought it and began renovation works. Slideshow: a chandelier made from jam jars hangs from the grilled ceiling of this barbeque restaurant in north east Athens by Greek architects K-studio. The illuminated jars hang in front of walls patterned with square-cut wooden blocks, which were designed to resemble traditional butcher's chopping boards.
A selection of mismatched chairs surround wooden tables, while stools line a grey tiled bar. We're featured quite a few restaurants recently where furniture is deliberately unmatching - click here to see one where no two items of furniture or crockery are the same. The cuisine revolves around barbequed meats. Barbequing is a social activity, so the design opens up the kitchen and allows the choreography of the chefs to become part of the dining experience, with some diners even sitting along the kitchen worktop to eat.
Architecture | Murray Mitchell. Design. Graphics and products. I feel like I have been away for a very long time and sadly could not get to several things including the blog during the last 2 weeks. And, in many ways that is good news... The National Stationery Show was a wild success and so much fun. Thank you for stopping by the booth and if we missed you our apologies and we hope to see or hear from you soon. I thought since I have been away for so long I would dive right in and let you know how it all went from pre show to show to post show. PRE-SHOWI started designing and planning back in October and for those of you who have done trade shows you know the time flys and for those who are planning to go, give yourself many months for trial and error. SHOWThe show was amazing. Our new stamp sets were a huge success which will be on the site tomorrow along with the new tea towels, mobile, and bunting.
Our booth worked out even though it was so small. . • where I succeeded: 1. ... more soon (thanks so much for all of your dear support!) Furniture design. 8 Home Decor Products Made From Concrete. Concrete gets street cred. How many times have you slagged off a building – e.g., a school, shopping center or intentional eco community – for being concrete, and thus ugly? When I was kid, our next door neighbors moved out of their brick house into a concrete one (the dad invented some new kind of livable concrete) and I deemed them aesthetically challenged.
Concrete has emerged as an invaluable material in sustainable construction. Limestone, the most abundant mineral on earth, is the predominant raw material in the cement that makes the concrete. It can also be made from waste byproducts like fly ash, slag cement, and silica fume. It’s also a durable, long lasting material (just ask the Romans) and homes built with concrete walls, foundations and floors tend to be highly energy efficient. Moreover, since concrete can be produced as needed, it’s easy to predict how much you will need and excess can be crushed and recycled for use in other concrete structures. For example:
