The ultimate guide to logo design: 25 expert tips | Graphic design

Logos are all around us. To the general public they serve as an instant reminder of a company or a product; to the client they’re the point of recognition on which their branding hangs; and to us designers they represent the challenge of incorporating our clients' ideologies into one single graphic. If you are a graphic designer or an interaction designer and have ever been tasked with creating a style guide or UI guidelines document (both are different and I’ve had the pleasure to work on both of them creating templates and the actual documents for brands and products), this list should help you out as a consolidated list of references. This list is going to be constantly updated (and will ultimately be a monster list, it’s quite modest for now) of publicly accessible style guides and UI guideline documents on the web. If you find any links not working or would like to suggest one that is not on the list, feel free to comment and let me know. <p style="text-align:right;color:#A8A8A8"></p>

Presenting Information Architecture | Web Style Guide 3

http://webstyleguide.com/wsg3/3-information-architecture/4-presenting-information.html Site planning with a team is often easier if you base your major structural planning and decisions on a shared master site diagram that all members of the group can work with. The site diagram should evolve as the plan evolves and act as the core planning document as changes are proposed and made in the diagram. Site diagrams are excellent for planning both the broad scope of the site and the details of where each piece of content, navigation, or interactive functionality will appear. For major planning meetings consider printing at least one large diagram of the site organization, so that everyone can see the big picture as it develops from meeting to meeting.

How To Build a Modern Website in 2011 - Tom Milway - Blog

The Psychologist’s View of UX Design

You may have heard this story about an elephant: A king brings six men into a dark building. They cannot see anything. The king says to them, "I have bought this animal from the wild lands to the East. http://uxmag.com/articles/the-psychologists-view-of-ux-design

The 7 Components Of Design

Before solving complex design problems you need to understand the basic components of design at your disposal. Much as a musician seeks to understand pitch and rhythm, melody and tempo, a designer should seek a greater understanding and control over: Through learning these 7 components of design, the whole of your designs will become more than the sum of their elements and you’ll be better able to communicate your ideas . I’ve written in greater detail about a few of these components and in the coming weeks I’ll write more detailed posts about the rest. Consider this post an introduction. Also note that there are many ways one can break down and organize design principles .

Web design techniques and principles from Web Pages That Suck -

I've gathered what I think are the biggest web design mistakes committed during the period 1995 to 2015. Yes, it is a little facetious to say these mistakes will be made in the year 2015, but it's human nature to repeat your mistakes over and over. But it's human nature to repeat your mistakes over and over <grin>. I've added more material to the article—especially the sections on Contrast, Graphics, Flash, JavaScript and Text.
Sometimes you look at a site that may be attractive enough, but something is missing. It has great colors, nice graphics, perfect alignment and clever copy, but there’s just something a bit bland about it. Though everything looks nice, nothing is really coming through vividly on a greater level than anything else. This solution to this problem is visual hierarchy. Designers are often intuitive enough to give the elements on the page a clear hierarchy without even thinking, other times the lack of intention in this area leads to a design like the one described above. This article will examine some of the basic principles of designing with a visual hierarchy of information in mind.
