Allsorts Sugar Cookies. I guess by now you know I'm absolutely crazy about Allsorts candies. I used them as a colorful topping for this cake when I celebrated my first year of blogging, and then recently on top of these mini cakes. I love their stripey graphic appeal and they're so full of happy color, I feel I should designate them as the new Sprinkle Bakes mascot. I came up with the idea for these sugar cookies when I was developing an all-in-one cookie dough recipe for an upcoming holiday project.

I started playing around with layering techniques and ended up with a stacked, stripey, slice-and-bake chocolate and vanilla dough. Just a trim here and a slice there - voila! An Allsorts twin! These are pretty simple to make, and most of the real labor is in dividing and coloring the dough. At first I cut the stacked dough into squares. I tinted the white portion of dough with white liquid food color which you can find here . To the batter. Allsorts Sugar Cookies[click for printable version] Yield: I lost count. Puffy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. Today my honey and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage!

It's hard to believe that a decade has passed since I married my polar opposite, but somehow this life we've made together works. Over the years I've learned to appreciate his laser focus on safety and practical footwear. He's learned to accept my cookbook sprawl and turbulence in the kitchen. While there are some things we'll never agree on (best to-go coffee, keychain flotsam [I collect, he hates], who loves our dogs more) there are some very strong and present alikes that keep our hearts tied together. One of those things - cookies. We both agree they're super important for a happy marriage. His favorite cookie in all the land is homemade oatmeal-chocolate chip, so this post is for him. His/Hers Since I'm all about getting creative with cookie add-ins, I made these two ways.

These cookies are buttery, vanilla-scented and slightly puffy with crisp edges. So, there you have it. At least.I love you, husband. Heat oven to 350F. Oreo cheesecake cookies. After I missed National Cheesecake Day, I vowed never to miss another food holiday again. Well, it turns out that I was a bit on the naive side. Did you know that there is a food holiday every day? Like, literally, EVERY DAY. I mean, I love food as much as the next girl… in fact, some may argue that I love food significantly more than the next girl, but every single day?? Monday was Root Beer Float Day, and today is Raspberries in Cream Day. I promise. I’m on board for S’more Day on August 10th (THIS FRIDAY, GUYS!) Anyway, I digress, moral of the story is that I missed Cheesecake Day and I’m sure that I missed Oreo Cookie Day (Which was apparently March 6th, for the record. So, In honor of belated Cheesecake Day & belated Oreo Day… in honor of all the other hundreds of food holidays I will miss (and have already missed)… and if you follow me on Pinterest, in honor of my apparent intense craving for Oreos….

Chocolate Chip Cookies. I have a bit of an addiction to cookbooks. It’s really quite a problem. My collection has officially outgrown the storage cabinet in the kitchen, so they’ve recently worked their way to my office and into their own shelving unit. Like many food lovers, I devour the pages of cookbooks and food related magazines more so than novels. If I am really geeked about a cookbook, I’ll preorder it on Amazon, so it arrives on my doorstep pretty much on the day of its release. That was exactly what I did for Alice Currah’s debut cookbook, Savory Sweet Life, which hit store shelves on June 5th.

I get really excited when fellow food bloggers secure book deals and it’s pretty fantastic to see their recipes, stories and photos transform from the web into tangible pages. I met Alice a couple of years ago at BlogHer Food in San Francisco and she quickly became one of my absolute favorite sites to read. You can find Alice through her blog, Savory Sweet Life and also through Facebook and Twitter. 50 Cookie Exchange Recipes. In order to solve a common I-want-a-chocolate-CHOCOLATE-cookie-but-he-wants-a-plain-chocolate chip-cookie dilemma that happens like, every single weekend here… I made both. Some of them smashed up against each other while others sat on top of each other but in the end, they all tasted… fantabulous.

And then they tasted extra delicious after I spent two hours cleaning out the contents of our bar (take that as you will), after he spent three hours organizing the pantry (that was weird) and after we both needed to severely eat our emotions immediately post-Boardwalk Empire finale. I adore blueberries…fresh out of a bowl, in my cereal and especially baked into yummy desserts…throw in some lemon and I am one happy girl. Moral of the story, if you find a deal or don’t mind the price tag, use fresh, but frozen berries work just fine.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see blueberries on sale today at Whole Foods and picked up two pints.
