The National Council has published the Guidelines for Portfolio Development for Nurses and Midwives in hard copy, CD-ROM and pdf formats.

In 1998 the Commission on Nursing expressed a number of views concerning the need for nurses and midwives to develop personal career plans. More recently the Action Plan for People Management in the Health Services and the Office for Health Management have highlighted the need for a strategic approach to meeting the education and training goals of both the individual and the organisation through, for example, personal development planning and performance review. It is with the above in mind that the Guidelines for Portfolio Development for Nurses and Midwives have emerged.

The document is aimed at all nurses and midwives, but particularly at individual nurses and midwives working at the frontline of care.
