http://www.nffc.net/ On April 4, the day that biotech giant Monsanto released its second quarter earnings , a new report ( click here ) by La Via Campesina, Friends of the Earth International and Combat Monsanto shows that around the world small-holder and organic farmers, local communities and social movements are increasingly resisting and rejecting Monsanto, and the agro-industrial model that it represents. A March 30 letter ( click here ) to the Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development and FDA Appropriations was signed by 38 organizations in support of continued funding and protection for programs and offices specific to sustainable agriculture, beginning, socially disadvantaged and veteran producers, and farmworkers. Many of these 2008 farm bill programs will end on September 30 if additional funding is not secured.

The Greenhorns

http://www.thegreenhorns.net/ The Greenhorns documentary film, completed after almost 3 years in production, explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming. The production of The Greenhorns is part of our grassroots nonprofit's larger campaign for agricultural reform.

Community Supported Agriculture - LocalHarvest

Thinking about signing up for a CSA but want to learn more about the idea before you commit? Read on. Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

Just Food

Just Food’s City Chicken Project provides the training, coops and hens that schools and community gardening groups need to raise healthy chickens and delicious eggs. For 2012, we've selected four community and school groups to become City Chicken Project sites. We need to raise $11,000 to provide training to our partners and build these four coops. Won't you help us reach our goal by donating $20 of scratch for our chickens? This project relies 100% on donations from Just Food supporters so please make a donation today !
