General purpose RS232 serial port IO controller board featuring 8 relay outputs and 4 opto-isolated inputs for use in a wide variety of control and sensing applications including load switching, external switch input sensing, contact closure and external voltage sensing.

8 Channel Serial Relay Controller Module

Eight independent relay outputs (can be increased to 16 if you use two 3108 units and our upgrade kit Order Code 3108U ). Each output is capable of switching resistive loads up to 48Vac/24Vdc @ 5 amps max and have high quality detachable screw terminal block connectors. (*NB The relays are rated to switch up to 240Vac mains voltage but the exposed screw terminal block heads would need to be placed inside a suitable enclosure to prevent exposure to hazardous voltages).

Ten Tips for New Raspberry Pi Owners

We’re guessing a lot of you found Raspberry Pis under the tree this morning and are eager to start hacking around with it. Getting Started with Raspberry Pi, which I co-authored with Shawn Wallace, will be shipping very soon and is available for pre-order now. In the meantime, we’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorite quick tips that may come in handy as you explore the platform. Some of these might be old hat to experienced Linux users, but who knows, you might also learn something new.

And if you have any favorite Raspberry Pi tips that you’d like to add, we want to hear them! Command line completion You don’t have to laboriously type out long paths, filenames, and commands. Command history Bash also keeps a history of the commands you type. Jumping to the beginning or end of a command If you want to jump to the beginning of a command you’ve typed (for instance, if you’ve miskeyed something), type Control-A. Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Modules, Receiver & Transceiver Modules and Accessories in 868 MHz. Building my Own Laptop. We are building an open laptop, with some wacky features in it for hackers like me.

Building my Own Laptop

This is a lengthy project. Fortunately, ARM CPUs are getting fast enough, and Moore’s Law is slowing down, so that even if it took a year or so to complete, I won’t be left with a woefully useless design. Today’s state of the art ARM CPUs — quad-core with GHz+ performance levels — is good enough for most day-to-day code development, email checking, browsing etc. We started the design in June, and last week I got my first prototype motherboards, hot off the SMT line. It’s booting linux, and I’m currently grinding through the validation of all the sub-components. Of course, a feature of a build-it-yourself laptop is that all the design documentation is open, so others of sufficient skill and resources can also build it. Above is an annotated diagram of the circuit board. Here are some of the features of the laptop motherboard: The battery board can charge batteries at rates in excess of 4A.
