US Awards 2014 | UUSU. The US Awards 2014 | UUSU. The US Awards took place on Tuesday 8th April in Coleraine Student's Union to recognise our student’s contribution to University & Students’ Union life. These awards brought all of our societies and volunteers together to celebrate their achievements over the past academic year. The awards enable UUSU to recognise all the great work, achievements and contributions that our students have made to their society, the local community and the Students’ Union.

Jane Gribbin from 'Volunteer Now' spoke about the importance of getting involved in volunteering and fund raising while at university, she claimed that future employers not only seek good results, but extra efforts, commitments and experiences. Ann Marie McKee winner of the 'Outstanding Student' award was shocked and humbled receive the last award of the night, she even got a standing ovation from the crowd! Dr Boluk named Overall Inspirational Teacher | UUSU. The UUSU Learning & Teaching Awards took place on Friday night in the Loughview Suite, Jordanstown. Over 200 nominations were cast by students to recognise the university and teaching staff that have gone beyond the call of duty for their students. Dr Boluk, lecturer in Leisure and Events Management in Coleraine campus was the winner of the Inspirational Award for Ulster Business School and the Overall Inspirational Teaching Award.

Dr Boluk said ''I was pleased to win the Inspirational Award and teary eyed when I was acknowledged as the most inspirational lecturer at the University of Ulster! It is an amazing feeling to be recognised in such a positive light by so many of my students. The award winners and nominees were as follows: Overall Inspirational Teaching Award Dr Karla Boluk Inspirational Teaching Awards Art, Design and Built Environment Faculty The shortlisted nominees: Christine Blaney Shirley MacWilliam Mary McIntyre Winner: Mary McIntyre Arts Faculty Winner: Dr Shaun Ryan Adrian Moore.

Amy Foster and Paula Grant win the Most Outstanding Sports Person Awards | UUSU. Amy Foster (Athletics) and Paula Grant (Golf) were the worthy winners of the most outstanding sports person awards for their campus at COLOURS Sports Union Awards in the Hilton Hotel on Saturday 24th May. These are the most prestigious awards that can be won and the girls are most deserving, competing at the top levels in their field.

See the full list of winners below; Nick Wright: Volleyball (Special Recognition Award) Nick Wright, was the recognised for his commitment to the University of Ulster, Jordanstown's Volleyball teams. Nick has been managing and involved with the club for the past 18 years. UUJ became the first team ever from the UK or Ireland to make it through to the second round of the Top Teams Cup, they have won the All-Ireland Premier League, the NI League and the NI Cup on several occasions. Adrian McGuckin: Jordanstown GAA Coach (Special Recognition Award) Adrian McGuckin manager of the Jordanstown GAA team was awarded a Special Recognition Award.

The Centre for Higher Education Research and Practice (CHERP) is a department within the University which supports staff to continually develop their teaching practices.

In this year’s Student Competition we would like to find out more about your perceptions of what makes an excellent teacher. Entries can be written accounts or blogs, story boards or video/ sound recordings. The title for this year’s competition is: “What makes an excellent teacher?” Apart from rewarding you for the quality of your entry, your guidance will provide us and other students with a source of good information to inform our educational practice and student learning.
