Well, the was the ‘Wijk’ that was - after a nervous penultimate round, Levon Aronian obviously decided that discretion was the better part of valor as he secured his third Tata Steel Chess title with a very quick, last round ‘GM draw’ with Teimour Radjabov. Aronian finished on 9/13, a full point ahead of Carlsen (who drew with Loek Van Wely), Radjabov and rising star Fabiano Caruana, who beat Boris Gelfand to not only take a share of the runner-up spoils but he also forces his way into the top 10 for the first time on the unofficial daily live ratings in the process. The last game of the tournament to finish was the epic ‘grudge match’ between Gata Kamsky and Veselin Topalov - and fittingly, Kamsky’s win got the tip of the hat from GM Alex Yermolinsky for his final Game of the Day choice from the Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk san Zee!
