A New Web Development Workflow, Part 1: Text. There are three ways in which any process changes: Forced change: “this is the way we do it now”.Reactive change: “our procedures don’t cover this”.Considered change: the deliberative consideration of alternatives that are evaluated, tested, and adopted. The third option is almost always best. In that way, a long period of research and experimentation and one weekend of concentrated work on integrating new habits has revolutionized the way I write and develop. It’s my hope that this series might help others streamline and improve their workflow processes. Old Perspectives For a long time I’ve been a proponent of creating site body copy in a word processor and exporting the text into clean HTML. New Methodologies The answer I came up with required the adoption of several new tools and workflow processes.

The first step replaced Microsoft Word with MacDown, a Markdown editor. The result is that a Markdown document that looked like this: There are three ways in which any process is altered: 1. Creative Cloud Extension Builder for Brackets. You can now use HTML, CSS and javascript to create extension panels for Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere. This project helps you do so super easily using Brackets, the free and open source code editor for the web (and its little brother Edge code). As part of the CC Extensibility Helpers, it leverages the Creative Cloud Extensions CLI to deploy a ready-to-use, customizable extension template based on a modified version of the Creative Cloud Extension boilerplate (Standard).

Just do the following: Open Brackets or Edge codeChoose File > Extension Manager and click Install from URLPaste the URL of this page ( and click Install No need to relaunch the app, your extension is ready to use. InVision – Plans & Pricing. Convert GPS .csv files to Ill... This script creates Illustrator paths and points from a .csv file exported from Garmin’s free BaseCamp software. In BaseCamp, select any number of tracks and/or waypoints and go to File > Export > Export Selection. Select .csv as the file type and save a copy of this file in the same location as the script. You’ll need to open the script and change the file name of the .csv file near the top, or save your .csv as “GPS Route.csv”.

You can run the script in a document of any dimensions. The waypoint objects created in the script have a “Symbol” property which is not used, but you could easily modify the script to take advantage of this (eg applying a style or using an appropriate symbol from the library). I’d appreciate any feedback, and would love to hear if you find the script useful. Scriptographer.org - News. Design Thinking Method Cards. Important: Changes to Twitter API Because Twitter are making changes to their API this version of TAGS will stop working in March 2013. TAGSv5.0 is compatible with the new API and you should get it here! For existing TAGS users: What will happen to my existing TAGS sheets? When Twitter turn off the old API (test outages this March) all authenticated and unauthenticated search requests will stop working. How do I upgrade my existing version of TAGS?

As I can’t push an update to existing copies of TAGS you’ll have to manually update by opening your spreadsheet, then opening Tools > Script editor… and replacing the section of code that starts function getTweets() { and finishes 134 lines later (possiblly with the line function twDate(aDate){ ) with the code here. To support my research in Twitter community visualisation I’ve updated my Twitter Archiving Google Spreadsheet (TAGS) [formerly called twitteralytics – I pre-emptively changed the name to play nice with Twitter ToS].

Five Useful Things You Can Do With Adobe Reflow Right Now. Edge Reflow is a relatively new program from Adobe, having been announced in 2012 and released in February 2013, with the elevator pitch of enabling you to "Design the responsive web" and "Create beautiful responsive designs".

The tricky part is that right now you can't actually use it directly to create responsive websites, only responsive designs. This means you can open up Reflow and use its visual design interface to create fully functioning design prototypes, with color schemes, layouts, form elements, links and text content in place. You can preview your design both within the tool and in Chrome, and you can set breakpoints, make your design responsive then preview it for mobile through Adobe's Edge Inspect tool. However, at the moment that's as far as you can get. You're as yet unable to go ahead and export your design as an actual website. For some designers this is just fine; creating a functional prototype which clients can green light is an integral part of their process. What & Why of Usability. Building Data-Driven Web Applications with WordPress (WordPress App Design part 3) - Alan Greenblatt. In the last post in this series, we built a REST interface to our server data, which consists of Events and Venues.

The REST interface provides the functionality to perform all the necessary CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) operations from a client (e.g. a browser or Curl from a command line) and makes use of WordPress roles and capabilities to determine whether the user making the request has the necessary permissions to perform the requested operation. Our goal in this post is to create a well-structured data-driven Web Application embedded in a WordPress page that makes use of good modern design patterns and leverages the REST interface we built in the previous tutorial. This is what we will be creating: The embedded app above allows you to view, create and edit and delete Venues. I’ve put all of the code up on GitHub as a plugin that you can download and install on your own WordPress server, or at least to make it easier to follow along with your own copy of the code. <?
