A New Web Development Workflow, Part 1: Text. There are three ways in which any process changes: Forced change: “this is the way we do it now”.Reactive change: “our procedures don’t cover this”.Considered change: the deliberative consideration of alternatives that are evaluated, tested, and adopted. The third option is almost always best. In that way, a long period of research and experimentation and one weekend of concentrated work on integrating new habits has revolutionized the way I write and develop. It’s my hope that this series might help others streamline and improve their workflow processes. Old Perspectives For a long time I’ve been a proponent of creating site body copy in a word processor and exporting the text into clean HTML. New Methodologies The answer I came up with required the adoption of several new tools and workflow processes.
The first step replaced Microsoft Word with MacDown, a Markdown editor. The result is that a Markdown document that looked like this: There are three ways in which any process is altered: 1. In BaseCamp, select any number of tracks and/or waypoints and go to File > Export > Export Selection. Select .csv as the file type and save a copy of this file in the same location as the script. You’ll need to open the script and change the file name of the .csv file near the top, or save your .csv as “GPS Route.csv”.
You can run the script in a document of any dimensions. The waypoint objects created in the script have a “Symbol” property which is not used, but you could easily modify the script to take advantage of this (eg applying a style or using an appropriate symbol from the library). Five Useful Things You Can Do With Adobe Reflow Right Now. Edge Reflow is a relatively new program from Adobe, having been announced in 2012 and released in February 2013, with the elevator pitch of enabling you to "Design the responsive web" and "Create beautiful responsive designs".
The tricky part is that right now you can't actually use it directly to create responsive websites, only responsive designs. This means you can open up Reflow and use its visual design interface to create fully functioning design prototypes, with color schemes, layouts, form elements, links and text content in place. You can preview your design both within the tool and in Chrome, and you can set breakpoints, make your design responsive then preview it for mobile through Adobe's Edge Inspect tool. However, at the moment that's as far as you can get. You're as yet unable to go ahead and export your design as an actual website.
