How to fix dead atmega and attiny avr chips

Atmega8(doctor) has saved in it’s memory signatures of 96 (so far) AVR Atmega and Attiny uC’s, just put your dead avr in socket, press the START button, and enjoy your good-as-new processor. There are three slots on board, for most common AVR’s, pins compatible with: DIP28 Atmega8, DIP20 Attiny2313, and DIP40 Atmega32 compatible processors. There is also an extra goldpin connector with all signals so you can attach adapters: -the "#1 HVPP adapter" with DIP20-B Attiny26 and DIP40-B Atmega8515 compatible -the "HVSP adapter" for tiny DIP8 Attiny13 and DIP14 Attiny24 compatible. Atmel AVR High Voltage Fuse Reset on a Breadboard

Here is what happens when you don't plan well...A big hairy mess. Parts: Setting Arduino fuses manually in AVR Studio. Here is a little tutorial about setting the fuses on a blank ATmega328P in AVR Studio so you can use it with Arduino IDE: You need: a board where you have a ISP connector for a hardware programmer a blank ATmega328P a hardware programmer a USB-serial cable (or just a USB cable if your board has the FTDI chip on board) Insert your blank chip in it's socket, careful at the orientation, make sure you insert it with the little D shaped indentation in the same direction as the socket indentation.

Plug your hardware programmer cable in the 6 pin male header labeled ISP, make sure the arrow on the connector is towards the marked pin (with a line) of the header. Bootloader. (redirected from Tutorial.Bootloader) Learning Examples | Foundations | Hacking | Links What's a bootloader?

After reading these descriptions, you should feel comfortable making changes to the fuses on an ATMega328p processor. However, you must always exercise caution because if you happen to screw up the fuse settings then you may brick your AVR. We do not offer any official support for this scenario because it's been done to death (google it) and in the worst case, you'll need a new AVR. Replacing the chip is easy enough if you have a hot air rework station but we'd advise you to exhaust all other options first. Optiboot - An optimised bootloader for Arduino platforms.
