The Artist Trust is a Seattle-based nonprofit that raises money to provide financial and professional support to artists statwide. This year the group awarded artists in literary arts, music, craft and media arts. Each award is worth $7,500. More than 400 artists applied. Stay with the story. John Ronald (Ron) Langrell will be the new president of Bates Technical College, the college announced Wednesday.
Langrell succeeds Lyle Quasim, who is retiring after a two-year tenure as president and more than 40 years in government leadership. The Tacoma college’s board of trustees voted unanimously on the appointment at its May 29 meeting. Langrell will begin his position on July 9. “We are pleased to announce Dr. Langrell as our new President and look forward to the leadership he will bring to Bates Technical College,” Mike Grunwald, chairman of the board of trustees said in a news release.
Langrell brings more than 30 years of higher education experience to Bates. Prior to his work in Minnesota, Langrell held academic leadership positions at Walla Walla Community College, where he was vice president of instruction -chief workforce officer, and instructional director of vocational-technical and continuing education.

In 2009, Gabe completed the Seattle Maritime Academy’s Marine Engineering Program, and proceeded to work on container ships for American President Lines until April, 2012.
