John Ronald (Ron) Langrell will be the new president of Bates Technical College, the college announced Wednesday.

New Bates college president chosen

Langrell succeeds Lyle Quasim, who is retiring after a two-year tenure as president and more than 40 years in government leadership. The Tacoma college’s board of trustees voted unanimously on the appointment at its May 29 meeting. Langrell will begin his position on July 9. “We are pleased to announce Dr. Langrell as our new President and look forward to the leadership he will bring to Bates Technical College,” Mike Grunwald, chairman of the board of trustees said in a news release.

Langrell brings more than 30 years of higher education experience to Bates. Prior to his work in Minnesota, Langrell held academic leadership positions at Walla Walla Community College, where he was vice president of instruction -chief workforce officer, and instructional director of vocational-technical and continuing education.

Gabe was homeschooled until 4th grade, when he entered the gifted program at Wing Luke Elementary. He attended middle school at Southwest Seattle Christian Center, where his family attended church, and where he was also dedicated and baptized. By the 8th grade, Gabe attended Sylvester Middle School, and went to graduate from Highline High School in 2000.

Gabe earned AA’s from Clover Park Technical College, and South Seattle Community College. In 2009, Gabe completed the Seattle Maritime Academy’s Marine Engineering Program, and proceeded to work on container ships for American President Lines until April, 2012.
