The Division of Labor as the Source of Grundnorms and Rights — Mises Economics Blog. In a previous post, I argued that empathy is the source of rights. The idea is that any norms that are abided by in society are necessarily norms that are self-undertaken by a community of people who share that value. Civilized people value various grundnorms, which are compatible only with the libertarian private property principles (or so we libertarians believe; this is at the root of Hoppe’s argumentation ethics and my estoppel defenses of libertarian rights, discussed in New Rationalist Directions in Libertarian Rights Theory).

But why do civilized people adopt the various libertarian-related grundnorms, such as peace, prosperity, reluctance to engage in unjustified violence? I think that it is the trait of empathy. Empathy for others is what gives rise to a general reluctance to engage in violent interaction–at least, without a good reason (justification). But why is there empathy? And at 15:03, Hoppe explains that Mises derives a very important insight from this. Better Than the Golden Rule? | The Libertarian Standard. Attempts to summarize all morality into a simple principle are ancient. Long before Kant’s categorical imperative we were blessed with the Silver and Golden Rules.

Indeed, there is a sort of progress in the development of these rules: Silver: Do not do unto others that which you do not want done to yourself.Golden: Do unto others that which you want done unto you.Cat. Imp.: Act only in such a manner that you can at the same time will that your act should become a universal law. But the progress may be illusory. The Silver standard may be best. The negative formulation does not entail perversities that can develop from very particular values.

Kant’s categorical imperative is, if not more dangerous, at least far murkier. But, courtesy of John Stossel, I am now thinking of the “wisdom” of Michael Medved: “You can only make a profit in this country by giving people a product or a service that they want,” [Medved] says. Is it, though? Rarely. This is an added complexity. 1. 2. 3. The Energy of Tomorrow, In Your Home Today! Sign Up. HackerBuddy » Free Karma for Helpful Hackers.

Working with Visual Weight in Your Designs. In design, visual weight is the notion that design elements have varied weights; that is, some objects, even on a two-dimensional medium, can appear to be heavier than others. Visual weight is a powerful concept that allows us to create visual hierarchy, symmetry, balance, and harmony in designs. When applied strategically, the concept of visual weight can help us guide the viewer’s attention to the places we want in a design. This article covers the concept of visual weight and the factors that affect it. What Is Visual Weight? Visual weight revolves around the idea that distinct elements in a design have varying heaviness relative to each other. The main visual weight factors we will discuss are: ColorContrastLightness/darknessSizeDensityComplexity Visual weight is heavily tied to symmetry.

To draw attention to certain objects (or to deemphasize others) we’ll want to purposely throw off the balance and create a visual hierarchy so that the focus shifts in the areas we intend. Color Size. Internet Leads My Thoughts and Processes. I have been reading this forum for sometime now and have found many great ideas. I myself have been having some success in the P & C half of my agency and as one of my first posts I wanted to share our best practices for working leads.
