We then stop to photograph the dramatic Iglesia de la Almadraba, which stands tall and isolated between the sea and the Salinas and salt lakes that abound with pink flamingos. From here it’s a short drive through the Desierto de Tabernas, a remarkable desert landscape widely used in Spaghetti Westerns and then on to our high Alpine desert retreat, Cortijada Los Gázquez. For the rest of the afternoon there’ll be time to unpack and relax while taking in the dramatic scenery and the setting sun across the Sierra Cazorla.
