Roasted Tomato, Basil & Feta Gluten Free Pasta | Gather & Feast. Cherry Goat Cheese Bites. Show of hands: who celebrates Valentine’s Day? Confession: I used to be a bit of a cynic, thinking it was nothing but a day to be guilted into supporting card and flower companies and feeling bad about relationship statuses. But if I think back, from a young age my family celebrated Valentine’s Day as a celebration of love of all kinds, especially the family and friend variety. My mom would surprise my sister and me with lacy Valentines and pink and red balloons, and my grandmother used to send me care packages full of Valentine’s Day decorations while I was in college. And honestly, in this world ridden with conflict and struggle and hate, who doesn’t need another day to celebrate love? Or another excuse for a special meal?

Whatever the case, Alex and I love taking this time of year to dream up some special eats to eat with loved ones. We’d love to hear if you celebrate Valentine’s Day and if you’re cooking up something fabulous? Tart Cherry Old FashionedJelly Toast. 11 Microbrews You Have To Try This Summer. Fluffy Pancakes. This pancake recipe is the result of mixing and matching different recipes from many different sources. It is the result of trying and failing so many times, that I almost declared pancakes as the one breakfast recipe I couldn’t master.

But I persisted, and this recipe is perfect – as perfect as a pancakes recipe can be, because making pancakes does involve frying, and frying is something that each of us needs to play with. It changes depending on your type of stove (gas or electric), on how hot the skillet is, and on how evenly hot you manage to keep it while frying multiple batches. But the instructions here are as close as it gets to “perfect,” and the result? Truly fluffy, puffy pancakes that are never heavy or dense and that are flavored with a pleasant vanilla aroma and taste.

Ssdlaw - What’s for Dinner? Whether you live on your own, or with a large family, there are always those brainstorming sessions that occur a little after lunchtime about what you're going to eat for dinner that night. Certain steps can be taken so, you don't have to worry about what tonight's meal is going to consist of. If you have a large family, everyone's taste buds might be different in which you have to prepare something everyone will enjoy. You may even have to sacrifice a favorite meal every once in awhile so everyone else is happy, which is worth it. There is a wide variety of foods in grocery stores, and restaurants. So, when dinner is decided on, your family will be enjoying a well thought out meal, but there are some steps to get to that point first.

Giphy Plan Everything Out Ahead of Time How much easier would it be to plan for dinner if it was pre-determined what you were having every night? Compile a List of Favorite Meals How Are You Feeling? Sporadic Weather. A College Guide to Eating Healthy. This is a guest post from Thomas Frank. Have you said any of these things recently? “I’ve got eight tests this week, so I’ve decided to only sleep every other night.” “We can totally get all of our meals free if we just join every club.” “It’s 3:00 a.m. – let’s take the mattresses off of our beds and mattress joust out in the hallway.” “YOLO” If so, you probably fall into the same group of Nerd Fitness readers that I’m in: college students.

For students like me, Nerd Fitness is a gold mine of awesome information and motivation. We students have one area that presents us with a greater challenge than most others face, and that’s eating well. College just seems to throw up a lot of roadblocks to healthy eating that non-students don’t seem to have to deal with, including super-tight budgets, lack of cooking tools, and ridiculously busy schedules. I’m going to help you break through these roadblocks. Foundation: The “Doing Good” Mindset Meats: I tend to use chicken as my primary meat. Boom. -Thomas. Pizza Cavolfiore Recipe. I'm usually a big fan of the home-packed sack lunch. The combination of short work breaks and abundant fast food means buying lunch usually isn't worth the bother.

I'd choose a home-made soup and salad, or even a humble sandwich, over most take-out options any day. But. But. Not in New York. This past winter I worked in SoHo, the home of lunch options both overpriced and fabulous. When you hear the word pizza, it immediately conjures up images of cheesy slices. I know this seems strange. Pizza Cavolfioreroasted cauliflower inspired by Jim Dixon, dough adapted from Jim Lahey via Smitten Kitchen, and the whole combination inspired by Grandaisy Bakery. This dough is a lot drier than most pizza doughs, more like a traditional loaf bread dough than a soupy pizza dough.

Dough:1 cup cool water1 tsp instant yeast (or 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast)1/2 tsp salt3/4 tsp sugar3 cups all purpose flour (you can substitute whole wheat flour -- add an additional 2 Tbsp water for each cup you swap) Chicken Florentine Pasta. I made this for a late lunch Saturday, and it absolutely completed me. It also absolutely completed my fourteen-year-old daughter, whose love of pasta is surpassed only by that of her mother, otherwise known as me. She and I took turns filling our little bowls and wolfing down helpings of the spinach-and-tomato packed pasta deliciousness, our contentment level increasing with each cylinder of penne. It was a mother-daughter pasta moment, is what I’m saying. And it was beautiful.

I can sure talk something to death, can’t I? Never mind. If you’re not and if you don’t, just skip forward to the “make this pasta dish as soon as humanly possible’ part. When I was growing up grilled cheese for dinner was a pretty common occurrence in our house. Now that I’m a mom, I can see why my mom was a fan. Easy, inexpensive, everyone likes them. No one complains. My mom made them with Kraft Singles Cheese and one of the highlights of grilled cheese making was my sister and I opening the plastic wrap on those Singles and peeling the cheese off the plastic.

We tried to open the cheese without dinging or breaking the cheese corners. Sounds easy enough but when you’re a kid and in a hurry, broken corners can be unfortunate casualties. I will never forget all the cheese my sister and I used to eat in a sport I’d call squares-of-cheese-folding. Give kids a package of Singles and it doesn’t take long before cheese folding, stacking, tearing, and even cheese art happens. You can use cookie cutters and cut out pretty cheese shapes, layering cut out pieces on top of other pieces. And let’s face it, anything that’s mini just tastes better. Just like old times.
