Purse Week: U Shaped Purse Handle Tutorial

Hello and welcome to any new readers heading over from Christie's great blog. Some of you might remember the bag I entered into the contest last year. This year, Christie invited me to guest blog and I'm excited to participate and show you guys what I came up with. I'll be showing you how to add u shaped handles to just about any bag you plan on making as well as showing you how to make the bag in the photos above and directly below.

U shaped handles come in all styles, materials, and colors. Tutorial: Sprocket Pillows. These are my favorite new pillows.

Tutorial: Sprocket Pillows

They are fast and unbelievably easy to make…and I hope you love them as much as I do. I did my best to simplify the instructions/pattern so they are beginner friendly, and super fun to make. If you’ve never worked with a template or curves, and your nervous about it…these pillows are a perfect place to start. The only problem with them is that you can’t make just one…trust me …I tried. There are pattern templates for two sizes: Recycled Wool Sweater Blanket. This recycled wool sweater blanket is so much fun to make! The thrill starts with looking for the sweaters at the thrift store, then builds as you felt the sweaters and finally reaches it's zenith when you can give the quilt away as a gift...unless you plan on keeping this one for yourself (and if that is the case I don't blame you at all!) This blanket was intended for my brother-in-law and I wanted it to have an interesting look and feel.

I was inspired by the look of subway tiles, so I used rectangular pieces and grouped them together in pairs, alternating their orientation. Patterns. Vintage transfer finds. As I was making this pillow, it reminded me the of rows and rows of candy I used to see inFarrell’s.

Does anyone have a Farrell’s in their town? We lost ours about 20 years ago, but I hear they are making a comeback! Ric-Rac: 1 hour bag- tutorial. This bag is so easy !

Daisies. I’m so excited. I’m helping out as troop co-leader……so I’m sure you’ll be seeing some activities on the site as time goes on. Lesley our fearless troop leader reminded me about sit-upons and I jumped right on it today. Gicela and I made them today for the girls using some vinyl table cloths (the flannel backed kind) and ribbon scraps. Corinne's Thread: Craft Apron. I am one of those people who is constantly misplacing my keys, leaving my wallet at home and being generally forgetful about generally everything.

Corinne's Thread: Craft Apron

Even my two-year-old daughter knows to ask, “Where’s Mama’s phone?” Every time we leave the house. This can be a real nuisance when it comes to my day-to-day life, but it’s downright frustrating when it comes to my sewing. Just when I’m ready to clip this thread or measure that seam my tools are nowhere to be found. They are usually hiding out under a stack of papers, or lying unaccountably on my bathroom counter, but one place they're not is where they should be!

And so I designed this apron with all of my forgetful habits in mind. For the fabric, I chose two fabrics from Robert Kaufman: Linen Cotton Chambray and Blue Arcs and Circles from the Architextures collection. I now have no more excuses for misplacing my tailor's chalk or pinking shears, but my keys . . . well, they'll probably remain forever on the loose. Mini-Tent Pattern + Tutorial « Sew,Mama,Sew! Blog. Tin Whistle: Tutorial- Plastic coated bag. Part 1. This is a step by step guide to creating the plastic covered bags that have featured in earlier entries of this blog. This bag is really very very simple to construct, and can be easily modified to any dimensions. Buy approx 50-70cm of each (112cm 0r 150cm wide) fabric, one colour for the outer, and one as a liner. I like to use quilters cottons as the range of colours/patterns is much nicer, but any non-stretch fabric would do. The plastic can be found in the tablewear section of stores like Spotlight and Textile Traders and costs around $6 or $7 a metre. Make your table pretty! A Reversible Rick Rack Napkin Tutorial.

Thanks for all the comments on my giveaway post! It sounds like there are some great homemade/handmade gifts in the works for this year. I don’t think anyone mentioned napkins, so I thought I’d provide you with another gift idea. These napkins make great gifts, or are also perfect as hostess gifts, or work quite well to add some color to your table! (Plus, you can make them with two different fabrics, so they can be reversible – two napkins in one!) I fully intended to write up this tutorial months ago, but apparently time got away from me. I like square napkins, but you could certainly cut your fabric any size or shape you’d like. Birchfabrics: Tutorial: Bias Tie Baby Bib by Guest Blogger Littlest Pretty Things.
