Wind Prospect breezes into renewable energy bond market - 27 May 2011. Renewable energy developer Wind Prospect has launched its first private bond in the UK market in a move designed to raise funds for the construction of a 4MW consented wind farm.

Wind Prospect launched the bond – dubbed ReBonds – earlier this week, detailing plans to raise £10m to install two RePower wind turbines costing £5m to £6m at South Staffordshire College. The company will use the remaining £4m to £5m to develop one further project. The bond issue emulates a similar scheme from green energy provider Ecotricity last year, which saw the company exceed expectations by raising just under £15m.

Income from the sale of electricity generated from the two new turbines and Wind Prospect's other wind farms will then be used to pay bondholders a fixed rate of return of 7.5 per cent over four years. Bondholders must pay at least £500 to receive the 7.5 per cent, while those subscribing for £10,000 or more will receive an extra 0.5 per cent interest.
