Learning how to adjust exposure to get the effect you’re looking for is one of the things all photographers have to eventually learn, and one of the easiest examples of this is taking a photo of a silhouette against a sunrise or sunset. In the photo above, I exposed for the sky. “Exposing for the sky” means I told my camera that I wanted to capture all the beauty and color variations of the sky and not to worry about letting enough light in to see my baby. By “telling my camera” I mean that I made the necessary adjustments and tweaks to my camera settings to make sure the sky was properly exposed.
In this case, I took the easy road and simply dialed back the exposure compensation until it let in less and less light…to the point that I was satisfied that it was capturing the sunset accurately. Is that still happening? I lived in North Carolina for a “spell” and saw my fair share of mullets. (Note: as best as I can tell “a spell” is the most ambiguous measurement of time known to man. Somewhere between a few minutes and a few years. I seriously love the south). Now, ever since I moved to Miami, mullets have been replaced with fake butts – which I see on a daily basis.
Thing is – mullets and fake butts are sort of the same thing. Today’s cards are the mullets of crafting. Let me start this post off by saying: I am a sucker for holidays….all of them! My goal in life is to figure out how I can put up decorations for President’s Day. In the meantime – I will stick to the easy holidays. The ones that come with colors. The ones that come with decorations…the kind of decorations that flood the aisles of Target, months before the actual holiday even arrives. Enter: Valentine’s Day! There are certainly those who hate this holiday. I, on the other hand, call it a great excuse to wear my favorite red pea coat and a fabulous reason to give out crafty creations to friends and family.
With that in mind, I thought I would dedicate this week’s blog posts to Valentine’s day! For today’s post, I created this cute treat bag filled with yummy chocolates. It’s simple. Just some cardstock, scored and folded around a small glassine bag filled with your favorite sweet. I created a border for my window using PTI Mat Stack #5.
