About the Artist. A dual citizen of both the USA and Canada, I've studied fine art in both countries.

About the Artist

Most of my gallery work has been done in Canada and all of my sales as well. I've painted for the last 20 years with my main medium being watercolour but I've also done acrylics and oils. I switched to origami for practical reasons (space). I remember my first origami piece was the Crane and once I folded one, I folded a thousand. I particularly like the ancient form of Kusudama (medicine ball) origami and modular origami. While some origami is so elegant without any additional ornament, I do find myself wanting to invent highly stylized pieces that are completely unique and off-beat. I work very spontaneously and like to use what's on hand for paper. If anyone has any good places to get a wide variety of paper for decent prices please email me. Diana Boston aka 'Paperbelle'

Fantastic HandmadeBouquet. Lampada Lighting. New York City artisan, Vilma Farrell, creates one-of-a-kind lamps and lampshades with an unlikely material - recycled coffee filters.

Lampada Lighting

Yes, you read that correctly... coffee filters in all of their natural tan glory! Sometimes she uses filters as is, and other times stains each one with the juice of vegetables and spices, such as collard greens, beets, spinach, saffron, or paprika. Originally a journalist in Brazil and now a stay-at-home-mom, Vilma is inspired by her native country's love of dark coffee, rich spices, and muita alegria or joy. She makes each light by hand in her living room/studio after her children are in bed for the night. Vilma cuts and ties wire cloth to create a lampshade's framework. She also uses coffee filters to create impressive wall decor on wood-framed canvas. See more of Vilma's captivating designs in her new Etsy shop, Lampada. Candle & Soap Making Techniques. DIY Solar Lamp: Make Your Own Eco-Friendly Sun Jars « Dornob.

The principle is simple and seductively clever: solar lights that store energy during the day and release light at night.

These can be purchased ready-made in a variety of colors (yellow, blue and red) but they can also be built at home. A simple, less-technical approach involves buying a conventional solar-powered yard lamp and then essentially harvesting it for key pieces to put in a jar. This is simply a way of taking an existing solar lamp design and appropriating its parts to make something more attractive for display around a house or home. A more electronically-savvy individual can take the more complex route and built a solar lamp from the ground up using small solar panels – though the aesthetic result may not be as impressive.

Whatever route you choose to go, these are fun and sustainable gadgets that make it easy to go green, automate the process of turning on lights at night and can add some color to your porch, patio, garden or windowsill. During the Renaissance, nuns and monks would roll gold-gilded paper remnants trimmed during the bookmaking process, and use them to decorate religious objects as an alternative to costly gold filigree. Quilling later became a pastime of 18th and 19th century young ladies in England, who would decorate tea caddies and pieces of furniture with paper filigree. The practice crossed the Atlantic with colonists, who added quilling to candle sconces and trays as home decorations. In all of that time, the process has remained very much the same, but quilling designs and specialty supplies have definitely caught up to the 21st century. Today some aficionados focus on making incredibly detailed 3-D figures, while others favor wall-sized museum installations. Homespun with Heart The second I saw them I KNEW what I was gonna do! I have had these Styrofoam ball forms for a while now, and thought I would do cute flowers all over them, and hang them in the twins' room. But sadly, the flower idea was pretty expensive. Especially because I wanted to do three of them. Using CD make paper box.
