The 17 Hundred 90 Hotel is still in operation. It is supposedly haunted by the ghost of Anna Powers. There are a few versions of her story... One story claims that Anna fell in love with a married sailor. Another version of the story goes like this: Anna Powers was a young Irish girl who was able to come to America by marrying a rich old man.

In 2005 my parents and I were staying at a hotel in Michigan when we saw this TV program on the Travel Channel about ghosts. On the show it featured a place called The Brown Palace Hotel. At the time my parents were planning on visiting Denver soon to visit my sister who was attending school there, and they looked into staying there. Needless to say the rooms were way out of their price range so they decided against going there altogether. When June came my parents went to Denver to see my sister and when they were getting their rental car they asked the salesperson if the Brown Palace was nearby, and luckily it was.

The Jailer's Inn, now a bed and breakfast, was the former Nelson County Jail. It was in operation from 1797 until 1987, and today it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The front building is the oldest, constructed in 1819. The back building was constructed in 1874, and it is surrounded by a tall stone wall. Now, being able to sleep in an old jail is cool enough.
