I saw Richard Linklater’s excellent, provocative Waking Life last night. The film gets points straight away for giving practical, accurate, still relatively little-known tips on lucid dreaming (John Christensen is hilarious in this little scene).
What is a Lucid Dream? “A lucid dream is a dream in which the person is aware that he or she is dreaming while the dream is in progress. During lucid dreams, it is often possible to exert conscious control over the dream characters and environment, as well as to perform otherwise physically impossible feats.” (wikipedia) Have you ever wanted to lucid dream? Introduction Lucid dreaming was taken very seriously by some cultures during ancient times. For example, in the 8th Century, The Tibetan Book of the Dead described of a form of Yoga designed to become conscious while dreaming. Yoga of the Dream State “Milam,” the Yoga of the Dream State is one of many different types of Yogas practiced by Tibetan Buddhists. The intention of this form of Yoga is to help to attain spiritual power and enlightenment or “awakening.” The word “Buddha” means “one who has awakened.”
