Temporal Dynamics of Learning Center. Systems engineering. Systems engineering techniques are used in complex projects: spacecraft design, computer chip design, robotics, software integration, and bridge building.

Systems engineering

Systems engineering uses a host of tools that include modeling and simulation, requirements analysis and scheduling to manage complexity. Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on how to design and manage complex engineering systems over their life cycles. Issues such as requirements engineering, reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, testing and evaluation, maintainability and many other disciplines necessary for successful system development, design, implementation, and ultimate decommission become more difficult when dealing with large or complex projects.

Systems engineering deals with work-processes, optimization methods, and risk management tools in such projects. The systems engineering process is a discovery process that is quite unlike a manufacturing process. Class Central - Never Stop Learning. MOOCs - All courses. Good and Bad Procrastination

So could it be that procrastination isn't always bad? Most people who write about procrastination write about how to cure it. But this is, strictly speaking, impossible. There are an infinite number of things you could be doing. There are three variants of procrastination, depending on what you do instead of working on something: you could work on (a) nothing, (b) something less important, or (c) something more important. That's the "absent-minded professor," who forgets to shave, or eat, or even perhaps look where he's going while he's thinking about some interesting question.

That's the sense in which the most impressive people I know are all procrastinators. What's "small stuff? " Good procrastination is avoiding errands to do real work. Good in a sense, at least. Method of loci. The method of loci (loci being Latin for "places"[1]), also called the memory palace or mind palace technique, is a mnemonic device adopted in ancient Roman and Greek rhetorical treatises (in the anonymous Rhetorica ad Herennium, Cicero's De Oratore, and Quintilian's Institutio Oratoria).

Method of loci

In basic terms, it is a method of memory enhancement which uses visualization to organize and recall information. A lot of memory contest champions claim to use this technique to recall faces, digits, and lists of words. These champions’ successes have little to do with brain structure or intelligence, but more to do with their technique of using regions of their brain that have to do with spatial learning.[2] 'the method of loci', an imaginal technique known to the ancient Greeks and Romans and described by Yates (1966) in her book The Art of Memory as well as by Luria (1969). Contemporary usage[edit] Many effective memorisers today use the "method of loci" to some degree. Free Online Courses.

Reading Your Textbooks Effectively and Efficiently

Taking Lecture and Class Notes. SQ3R. SQRRR or "SQ3R" is a reading comprehension method named for its five steps: survey, question, read, recite, and review .

The method was introduced by Francis Pleasant Robinson, an American education philosopher in his 1946 book Effective Study.[1] The method offers a more efficient and active approach to reading textbook material. It was created for college students, but is extremely useful for young students as well. Classrooms all over the world have begun using this method to better understand what they're reading.
