Metaverse

The Metaverse is a collective online shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, [ 1 ] including the sum of all virtual worlds , augmented reality , and the internet . The word metaverse is a portmanteau of the prefix " meta " (meaning "beyond") and " universe " and is typically used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe. [ 2 ] The term was coined in Neal Stephenson 's 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash , where humans, as avatars , interact with each other and software agents , in a three-dimensional space that uses the metaphor of the real world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaverse

Second Life fête ses 8 ans, quel bilan de cette période ?

Huit années très riches en innovations et usages disruptifs. Le moins que l’on puisse dire est que Second Life aura marqué les esprits et modifié à jamais la perception des environnements virtuels par le grand public . Nombreux sont encore ceux qui me demandent si Second Life est toujours ouvert, et ma réponse est invariablement la même : Second Life est toujours actif et l’univers est bien intéressant aujourd’hui qu’il ne l’était à l’époque de la sur-médiatisation. Avec le recul, nous mesurons maintenant l’impact négatif de la sur-exposition médiatique de Second Life, mais les équipes de Linden Lab ont su traverser cette tempête : Grandeur, décadence, résurrection, sublimation et transformation de Second Life .

Virtual worlds are the golden path to achieving Artificial General Intelligence and positive Singularity, Dr Ben Goertzel’s, CEO of Novamente LLC and author of “ The Hidden Pattern: A Patternist Philosophy of Mind” explained in his presentation “Artificial General Intelligence in Virtual Worlds” given at the Singularity Summit 2007 earlier this month. According to Goertzel, Singularity is no longer a far future idea.
