Programming Android  At over 500 pages this book covers a lot of material. The authors have extensive experience and provide good examples that you can download from the companion web site - if you want a book to work through to learn programming in Android that you can have confidence in this could be the one. Even though the authors expect you to have some programming experience the early chapters provide a good explanation of Object Theory and the Java Programming Language and a very good explanation of Threading. It is in Part 3 that we really start to get going with a skeleton application that you can use as a template for your own projects. Here the authors are very good at explaining the 'gotchas' that can catch you out e.g. 'The approach we take in this chapter enables you to visualize and understand the component life cycle before you know you need it. Serial data communications is the foundation for most forms of data communications used with modern computing devices. The focus of the articles in this book will be around the implementation of RS-232 (aka RS-232C, aka V.24, aka EIA-232D, etc.) based serial data communication and will explore a wide range of implementations and uses for serial data transfer.

USB in a NutShell - Chapter 1 - Introduction. Starting out new with USB can be quite daunting. With the USB 2.0 specification at 650 pages one could easily be put off just by the sheer size of the standard. This is only the beginning of a long list of associated standards for USB. There are USB Class Standards such as the HID Class Specification which details the common operation of devices (keyboards, mice etc) falling under the HID (Human Interface Devices) Class - only another 97 pages.

If you are designing a USB Host, then you have three Host Controller Interface Standards to choose from. The good news is you don’t even need to bother reading the entire USB standard. So now we can begin to read the parts of the standard relevant to our needs. 4 - Architectural Overview 5 - USB Data Flow Model 9 - USB Device Frame Work, and 10 - USB Host Hardware and Software. Peripheral hardware (Electronics) designers on the other hand may only need to read chapters, The Universal Serial Bus is host controlled. Book Overview What are microcontrollers, anyway? Electronics built into one single chip capable of controlling a small submarine, a crane, an elevator… It’s up to you to decide what you want them to do and dump a program with the appropriate instructions into the chip.

You're probably wondering what you need for it? Just a PC, a program for compiling and a simple device to transfer your code from the PC to the chip itself. Is it complicated? Absolutely not!
