Planting Garlic

Plant cloves, pointy side up in your container, poking them about half way down into the soil. You can plant them fairly close together, but make sure they are not touching. Fill container with soil until the soil totally covers the garlic by about a half inch, making sure to fill in all the spaces between the cloves. Pat the soil down gently. http://containergardening.about.com/od/vegetablesandherbs/ss/Growing-Garlic-Indoors-In-Containers_6.htm

DIY Gutter Gardens

written by Heather Watterworth These DIYs are slightly more involved than just letting weeds and moss grow in the gutters on your home, but the pay off is worth it. These hanging gardens shake up standard hanging baskets by using horizontal space, and provide privacy should your neighbours be a little too close for comfort. If you’re more of a minimalist, opt for the high gloss PVC and steel cable version on the left (we’re betting it will also be cheaper to DIY). Want something with a little more longevity? Martha’s version uses copper chains and gutters, which are sure to develop a pretty emerald patina after a season in the elements.

http://carolynshomework.blogspot.com/2012/04/dirt-spring-planting-and-diy-tomato.html I’ve mentioned here before that my neighbor generously gives us fresh produce from his garden every year. Vine ripened tomatoes, bell peppers in assorted colors, fresh zucchini, beans and more. Once you’ve been spoiled with home grown produce it’s hard to go back to store bought vegetables. I’ve also always put off growing my own vegetables because bags of my neighbor’s harvest would show up on my doorstep. Sadly, my neighbor is quite elderly and his health is failing. It’s hard to see him so frail and I’m sure he won’t be able to tend to his garden this year.

The Dirt: spring planting and diy tomato cages

Quick— someone knock on wood —but it looks like we might get a break from the rain, hail and snow that refuses to leave Utah. Heck, it’s a balmy 54 degrees outside right now. That means that the rest of my sad clearance flowers from my cake dome planter project that have completely taken over my kitchen table can finally move outside. I’ve been wanting some more color to go with my cake dome planter along the front porch and love the look of hanging baskets. But as it turns out, I was fresh out of hanging baskets.

http://homeandgarden.craftgossip.com/6-great-ideas-for-potted-plants/ Apr It’s definitely spring. One day it’s cold, the next day it’s warm, snow, rain, clouds, sun. While it’s not warm enough here to start planting outside yet, the birds are definitely chirping and building nests and some of the bulbs are starting to peek through.

Ten June: My Love Buckets

Well hellllllo there. My name is Ten June. And I got a blog lift!
April 19th, 2011 This year I’m planting my herbs in the sunniest corner of our yard, so hopefully they won’t turn yellow and die again. Third time’s the charm, right? I don’t really need herb markers (I mean, it’s pretty easily to tell the difference between basil and rosemary), but they are so darn cute that I decided to make myself a set with my old stash of polymer clay and rubber stamps. This is what you need to make your own:

Dahlia flowers are so gorgeous. I used this tutorial from It's the Little Things , but I made a few slight changes. I've seen a lot of similar flowers floating around Pinterest, and I am so glad that I decided to make one.
