Are you as fit as you should be for your age? Exercise can reduce your risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes and some cancersA recent report found that 44 per cent of adults never exerciseUse these tests to check whether you're as fit as you should be By Louise Atkinson for the Daily Mail Published: 21:31 GMT, 8 June 2015 | Updated: 08:57 GMT, 9 June 2015 Exercise won't just help you maintain a healthy weight, it could be the single most important step you can take for your mental and physical health, and the best way possible to keep the effects of ageing under control.

Are you as fit as you should be for your age?

Exercise can reduce your risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes and some cancers by up to 50 per cent, and lower your risk of early death by nearly a third. It can also cut your risk of osteoarthritis by up to 83 per cent, boost mood and sleep quality and reduce your risk of depression and dementia. Exercise could be the single most important step you can take for your mental and physical health. Mower 4 Stroke Briggs Stratton Alloy Body Aussie Made in Mooroolbark, VIC.

Issue Briefing: Impacts of Airplane Pollution on Climate Change and Health

They fly at fantastic speeds with no apparent effort, leaving behind only thin streams of puffy white clouds. In reality, airplanes accomplish the miraculous feat of hurling hundreds of thousands of pounds of people, baggage, and aluminum thousands of miles at high speeds by consuming huge amounts of fossil fuels. In the process, airlines dump massive amounts of dangerous pollutants over our homes and into our atmosphere every day.

This great but largely invisible harm will continue to grow at an accelerating rate in the years to come. Airplanes have three major problems: they are inefficient, they are big, and they run on toxic fuels. Unlike cars, however, people do not use airplanes for a few minutes each day to travel just around the corner for groceries or into the office. Airplanes achieve such extraordinary levels of energy consumption and carbon emissions by burning large quantities of toxic jet fuel. Catalyst - Oil Crunch - ABC TV. Victorian forestry is definitely not ecologically sustainable

Much of the attention of politicians, policy makers and the general public has been on the tall forests of Tasmania. But the state of Victoria’s forests is far worse than those in Tasmania - in terms of the number of species of conservation concern, the rate of overcutting, the loss of old growth forests, and the continued application of antiquated and environmentally-damaging clearfelling operations. The Holy Grail of forest management is for it to be ecologically sustainable. Ecologically Sustainable Forest Management (ESFM) is defined as:

Felix Dodds comments on sustainable development and life: November 2010

Although I have been asked to speak on the contribution that stakeholders might play, I do want to start by making comments on the agenda for Rio+20 as well. In doing so I will draw on the article Maurice Strong and I did for the BBC in May this year. To start with, I would like to commend Brazil for the leadership they have shown inpersuading the world that another Earth Summit is needed. There is a simple question we should all ask ourselves - is the world going in the right direction? If the answer to this question is no, then we should ask what are the current challenges that the world needs to address, how can we address the challenges together and how long do we have to address them? Broken promises The answer to the last question is “not long”. Human Population Reaches a Milestone. Blood, Berries or Butter: A film about your health! by HB3 Ocean.

Blood, Berries or Butter: A film about your health! by HB3 Ocean

Blood, Berries or Butter is a documentary (and passion project) starring the most boundary-pushing, trail-blazers in the areas of nutrition, fitness, personalized medicine, anti-aging and beauty. It's a collection of stories and interviews from some of the world's most influential personalities in the health & wellness space. Although the topics covered and the cast of characters are awesome, this film really isn't about them. It's about YOU. It's about the choices you make everyday. Topics we cover include: TrustMovies: Green Sleaze: Laura Israel's WINDFALL tracks wind energy in upstate New York. How disappointing is the experience of viewing WINDFALL, the award-winning documentary by longtime editor and now filmmaker Laura Israel about the coming of wind energy to a small farming town in upstate New York?

TrustMovies: Green Sleaze: Laura Israel's WINDFALL tracks wind energy in upstate New York

Hugely. And I don't mean the movie itself -- which seems the very model of a smart, thoughtful documentary about a timely and important subject. No, I am speaking of the reaction that many of us who thought we were "green" -- welcoming all forms of safe and effective alternative energy -- are likely to have after experiencing this 83-minute movie. It will turn many of our preconceptions upside down. Ms Israel, shown at right, starts slowly, introducing us to the townfolk of Meredith, New York, one by one or two by two. A persistent myth about the challenges of integrating renewable power into the grid is that because solar and wind are intermittent, grid operators need to maintain full generation capacity from "baseload" plants powered by coal and nuclear.

Recent real-world data and research shows that not only is this not true, but that baseload capacity is fundamentally incompatible with renewables, and that as renewables provide a greater portion of the grid's power, baseload generation will need to be phased out. But before we get into the details, some background information is in order. Types of power plants "Baseload" power generators are typically large units that operate more or less continuously at 70 to 90 percent of their rated capacity, and do not shut down except for maintenance. These include nuclear, coal, and combined-cycle natural gas plants which capture and recycle the exhaust heat of traditional gas turbines.

The grid today. Renewable energy can provide baseload power - here's how. The myth that renewable energy sources can’t meet baseload (24-hour per day) demand has become widespread. After all, the wind doesn’t blow all the time, and there’s no sunlight at night. But detailed computer simulations, backed up by real-world experience with wind power, demonstrate that a transition to 100% energy production from renewable sources is possible within the next few decades. The baseload issue can be solved by reducing baseload demand, having some renewable energy sources that can supply baseload power and increasing the proportion of flexible peakload plant in the generating mix. Reducing Baseload Demand We do not currently use our energy very efficiently.
