I spent time in the garden last night picking blueberries and brought in about four quarts worth and left many, many more still ripening. Monkey Boy pointed out all the blueberries he wanted to eat and snacked on a few, his fingers turning blue from the juice. There’s something about picking fruit, starting with strawberries in the spring and carrying on through to apples in the autumn that brings out the kid in me, and I love to share it with my boys. The first blueberries we planted were a Northern low bush variety, and each year we’ve added a few more blueberries, all different types of high bush. There’s no other way to put it. Marlboro Man is coaching my two boys’ football team, Marlboro Man and I are both tuned in and watching all the college games we can find on TV…and if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also gone to some of our local high school’s home games on Friday night. A few days later you're sitting on your best friends sofa and you are laughing at her because her husband is giving her grief for buying a 1kg jar of nutella! She loves nutella, but I've never seen her with a 1kg jar before. It is just the two of them. However, she has a fabulous excuse, apart from 'they didn't have any smaller jars at the store' which is what she swears to, oh no, she is heavily pregnant! Perhaps it is the low and long baking time, or the addition of cream cheese that keeps this cake from being dry. I have made it numerous times and have never had a problem. It is full of flavor by itself but if you prefer to dress it up, you can add a glaze and top with berries. Bring the ingredients to room temperature and be sure to grease and flour your pan well. Cream the butter and cream cheese until fluffy and then add the sugar. Add the eggs, 1 at a time then the flour/salt. Finish with the vanilla and remember to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl before spooning into prepared pan.
