Obama waving-hand gaffe picture NOT a hoax or a Photoshop after all! Over the last few hours a photo has begun to circulate on the blogs showing Obama supposedly at the “Open Government Partnership” conference today committing an egregious gaffe by raising his hand to block the face of another world leader. Here’s a link to the MSNBC photoblog where most bloggers first noticed the image; and here’s the image itself: [Click on the picture to see it full-size.] Now, many veterans of the Great Photoshop Wars of 2003-2010 will take one look at this photo and see about a hundred things “wrong” with it. Not only does Obama’s hand seem Photoshopped into the image, but Obama himself seems to have been awkwardly pasted in. In fact, under closer inspection, about half the people in the image appear to have been inserted artificially; in other words, the whole scene looks to be constructed almost from scratch.

Archeologists unearth evidence of zombie scare in medieval Ireland. Halloween is still more than one month away but archeologists working in Ireland have uncovered a couple of 8th century human skeletons that point to a ghoulish story. The skeletons, dug up between 2005 and 2009 at Kilteasheen, near Loch Key in Ireland, were found with stones stuck into their mouths. Researchers examining the remains suggest this may have been related to a belief among the locals that this practice would prevent the dead from returning to walk the Earth as zombies. What began as a survey of medieval churches in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, has since turned into one of Ireland's largest research excavations. Indeed, the project has so far turned up more than 120 skeletons in a cemetery which dates between the 7th and 14th centuries.

The site has revealed traces from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Early and later Medieval eras. Click here to read the story on Discovery News. . © 2011 CBS Interactive Inc. Home. The death throes of a star being torn apart by a black hole 4 billion light years from earth have been recorded by scientists, who report that its slow demise has lasted for more than two-and-a-half months.

Usually when stars collapse they let out a single burst of radiation, but in this case the stricken star has been slowly ripped apart, sending out jets of energy as it is dragged into the black hole. Such events, known as mini-quasars are incredibly rare and usually only happen once every 100 million years in any galaxy. Scientists think the orbit of the star took it too close to a dormant black hole and it was sucked in.

But rather than being destroyed in one fell swoop the star, about the size of our sun, has been gradually pulled to pieces. Dr Joshua Bloom, from the University of California at Berkeley, explained: "As the black hole rips the star apart, the mass swirls around like water going down a drain, and this swirling process releases a lot of energy.
