DIY VINTAGE STYLE FRAME. 20th December 2013 Recently my friend Luke Casey (the man behind my recent videos) gave me a print from his Ports & Portholes photography exhibition of amazing photos taken while he was travelling on a ship for 3 months. Immediately I was on the lookout for a way to show it off that was a tad more interesting than my usual IKEA frame option. I decided to do this little DIY inspired by vintage map frames, you know, the roll up ones in most primary school classrooms that had old, yellowed world maps in them. This little project is a very quick and simple one that, incidentally, makes the perfect gift for last minute givers (just leave enough time for the paint to dry!). Goals are important for so many reasons. They’ve become important to me recently in allowing me to get through my long list of ideas and actually make them happen. Like I said in the email, I decided to make a change because I realized I was always busy but not always getting the important things done.
To make this change happen, I first made a master list of everything I wanted ( and needed ) to get done. Then, I put them in order of priority. Of course, client projects were on top of business/personal projects… that was the easy part. The hard part was figuring out a good plan of action for all of the ideas I have for the CLC resource shop. I gave all of these a shot: Shure SE535: Great fit, but the rolled off highs were annoying...the treble isn't as clear as you'd like it to be, and the bass is lacking. I'm not a bass-nut, but I like to at least "feel" the punch of the bass some. They sound very good, but they are in no way worth their absurd $500 price IMO (I found used in the mid $200s, but ended up not buying them).

This week’s project, a no-fuss recycled windowsill herb garden, has knocked watering the plants off our list. Self-watering planters like these aren’t a new idea; we remember our own childhood craft books that taught us how to poke holes through Dixie cups or invert two liter plastic bottles to grow our own little bean garden.
This grown-up version is much better looking and works great for small herbs and plants. We used beer bottles for ours, but you could make a larger garden with wine bottles too. Although this project may take a little more effort than your average windowsill garden initially, the pay off is worth it for us: we get to usefully recycle bottles, we get fresh herbs we don’t have to dote on, and we get a sparkling window display.
