I had suggested that at the very least to put the information into a Google Doc so students can collaborate around it and insert comments. Google Forms limits student responses to text submissions. One of the coolest things about spreadsheets is the ability for it to recognize patterns and apply it over a large range.

If you write a formula in a spreadsheet and then copy the formula to other cells, the spreadsheet recognizes the pattern and automatically adjusts the formula. “Fill down” refers to copying the pattern in the spreadsheet down a particular range in a column. For example if I type the number 1 in a cell and the number 2 in the cell below it and then highlight the two cells to signal the pattern, I can “fill down” to continue the pattern.

After highlighting the pattern look for the square in the bottom right-hand corner of the highlighted range. This is the “fill down” square. This works with other patterns too. In response to a tweet asking how to print a folder of student work in Google Drive I wrote a script that will list all the files in a folder in your Google Drive and create a PDF.

The advantage to this is you can download all of the PDF’s at once to your computer. Usually, if you select a collection of files on your computer and choose to print them, you can print multiple files at once. Using a Writing Journal. I received a tweet from a teacher wanting to have his students create writing journals and then submit them through Classroom.

Here is a suggestion for how to create the writing journals. Create a template in Google Docs. Add a table of contents to the doc. The blue hyperlinks in the table of contents can be copied and submitted to Google Classroom. The advantage to sharing a folder rather than sharing files is that it is a one time sharing. Once the folder is shared, anything placed in the folder will automatically be shared.
