Your social media profiles have morphed as the sites they live on have changed. So has the way people view them. To get a better idea of how profile design affects profile viewers, Mashable asked eye-tracking research startup EyeTrackShop to compare visual statistics for Twitter, Facebook and MySpace profiles before and after major site redesigns. The company had 30 people to look at the profiles while tracking their eye movements. Facebook analytics site Edgerank Checker has released a study into the impact of the new Facebook newsfeed, one month into its release. When Facebook rolled out the changes to the feed last month, moving from a two tab system of ‘latest news’ and ‘most popular’, to the real-time updates and single stream, it meant that users were exposed to more content, as we were now seeing every single update made by any of our friends, no matter what page we were on within Facebook. The impact for businesses however, was that Page content was getting less exposure, as you were now competing more heavily for space. The study from Edgerank Checker has found that over a sample of over 5,800 random Pages, 82% experienced a reduction in the amount of impressions on the Page.

Facebook is notifying page administrators that the company will begin phasing out the old insights tool on December 15. On that day, the social network will stop collecting data for the old page insights. They will completely disappear from the site on February 15. Facebook is advising page administrators who wish to save all data from December 15 and prior to that. Currently, two different page insights icons appear on administrators’ dashboards. The one in the left-hand column leads to the new insights, while the one in the right-hand column (see first screenshot, above) goes to the old, where Facebook’s advisory about the transition appears at the top of the page.

Facebook has overhauled its Pages Insights analytics tool and added a new metric to gauge the health of a page: "People Talking About." That statistic, which users will see on Pages below the total number of "Likes," will be one of four tracked by Pages Insights.
