Social media is everywhere. It's in our homes, places of worship, schools and, of course, our businesses. Everywhere you look, people are using social media and are talking about it. And it seems that every week a new type of social site pops up. While this is an exciting metric for our team, I think it’s important to recognize the broader implications of this milestone. One hundred million people with Klout Scores means that there are 100 million voices effectively leveraging the social web to share their opinions, hopes and dreams and shaping the decisions of the billions of people now listening to them. If you look back at the last 100 years of mass communication, you can begin to truly appreciate the implications of this diffusion of influence – from corporations and the media elite to the masses. We believe that every person who creates content online has influence. Measuring Social Media Influence? The question of such nature that I’m referring to is – how to measure social media influence. In other words – how to measure the success of the social media? You can’t, really. I keep thinking on how to actually answer this question, every time someone asks that. Carolin Probst-Iyer, manager of digital consumer engagement for Chevrolet at General Motors Co., said that Chevy developed the promotion to generate awareness and consideration among the sedan's target market of Millennial-aged consumers. The campaign is targeting Millennials in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas, said Probst-lyer. She said Chevy chose the target markets because they are "key markets from a sales perspective" and heavily populated with Millennials who are a "highly social" demographic.

"One of the key strategies within the social plan for Sonic is to talk to influencers who can take the message and spread it further within their social graphs," said Probst-Iyer.
