Base mass refined range nucleus basic control CNS ganglia Welcome Introduction^ The brain is a complex organ with many components. These multiple components work together to maintain basic life processes, like breathing, body temperature and blood pressure, as well as higher functions like creative thought and emotions. This is an introduction to some of the basic terms used when describing the brain and its major parts. Central Nervous System^ The brain is a part of the central nervous system (CNS). Brain Cells^ The brain is made up of two types of cells: neurons and glial cells. Directions^ The top of the brain is called the superior side, and the bottom is called the inferior side. Protection^ The brain is surrounded and protected by the rigid, bony skull and three membranes, or meninges.

Cerebral Cortex^ The outermost and top layer of the brain is the cerebral cortex. Brain Hemispheres^ The cerebral cortex is divided down the middle, from front to back, into hemispheres, or halves. Putamen^ Neuroscience Resource Guide | PsychologyDegreeGuide.org. This guide was compiled by Rosemary Trumbull, who obtained her Bachelors of Science in Biology-Psychology from Tufts University (2010). It is intended to provide resources for Neuroscience students, as well as people who are curious about the subject. The resource guide is divided into several broad categories, and each resource has a brief description of what can be found on that site.

The resource guide includes links to databases, journals, societies, and laboratories that may help with Neuroscience students’ research. It also includes links to online tutorials and educational resources that are designed to help both students and teachers grasp the subject matter in a way that allows them to find better ways to understand and disseminate Neuroscience material. Finally, there are several resources listed for patients with neurological disorders.

The Open Source Handbook of Neuroscience Neuroscience is a field that is devoted to the scientific study of the nervous system. Such studies may include the structure, function, development, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology of the nervous system.

Traditionally it is seen as a branch of biological sciences. It can involve convergence of interest from many allied disciplines, including psychology, computer science, statistics, physics, and medicine. The scope of neuroscience has now broadened to include any systematic scientific experimental and theoretical investigation of the central and peripheral nervous system of biological organisms. Neuroscience. Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system.[1] Traditionally, neuroscience has been seen as a branch of biology. However, it is currently an interdisciplinary science that collaborates with other fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, linguistics, mathematics, medicine and allied disciplines, philosophy, physics, and psychology.

It also exerts influence on other fields, such as neuroeducation[2] and neurolaw. The term neurobiology is usually used interchangeably with the term neuroscience, although the former refers specifically to the biology of the nervous system, whereas the latter refers to the entire science of the nervous system. Because of the increasing number of scientists who study the nervous system, several prominent neuroscience organizations have been formed to provide a forum to all neuroscientists and educators.
