Science. STEM Frameworks of Instruction. STEM integrated frameworks of instruction bring mathematics and science content knowledge into Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) courses and CTAE applications into mathematics and science instruction.

STEM Frameworks of Instruction

The model unit/task frameworks of instruction, written by Georgia teachers, integrating mathematics, science and selected CTAE concentration areas serve as examples for high school and middle school teachers. Model frameworks of instruction are available on topics in CTAE concentration areas. Talk for primary science- Learn Chemistry

The videos in this resource look at different ways to encourage children’s talk in science. Talk helps children to use scientific language effectively and develop their understanding of scientific ideas. Right across the curriculum, talk engages children, motivates them to use their speaking and listening skills and helps them learn how to respect and respond to each other. It reinforces the idea that mistakes can be opportunities for learning, leading children to find their own answers to problems. In science especially, exploratory talk helps children develop their enquiry and reasoning skills.

Interpersonal Effectiveness Videos

The videos were designed as instructional tools to help students better understand the importance of effective interpersonal skills in group work. The brief vignettes show both positive and negative examples of interactions between students, providing a starting point for class discussion on student roles and appropriate behavior in group situations. Freebies for Science Teachers

Targeted primarily for high school students and teachers, the website offers genetics education resources organized by Topics, Labs, Teacher Resources, Career Information, and Highlights (news). Recent additions to the Topics page include articles, interactive tutorials, and teacher resources for exploring the role of genetics in influencing behavior and identity and for exploring precision medicine and pharmacogenomics. (Precision medicine is a modern approach to health management in which treatment and prevention approaches are identified based on a person’s genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors; similarly, pharmacogenomics, part of precision medicine, examines how genes affect a person’s response to drugs.)

To access the new materials, click on the Topics tab, go to Top Issues in Genetics, and select the links Genetics, Behavior and Identity, or Precision Medicine. Semantic Feature Analysis. Strategies for Reading ComprehensionSemantic Feature Analysis[Johnson & Pearson, 1984] What Is It?

Semantic Feature Analysis

With a Semantic Feature Analysis chart or grid, one can examine related concepts but make distinctions between them according to particular criteria across which the concepts can be compared. How Does It Work? A set of concepts is listed down the left side (or across the top; it doesn't much matter which) and criteria or features are listed across the top (or down the side). If the concept is associated with the feature or characteristic, the student records a Y or a + (plus-sign) in the grid where that column and row intersect; if the feature is not associated with the concept, an N or - (minus-sign) is placed in the corresponding square on the grid.
