Science. STEM Frameworks of Instruction. STEM integrated frameworks of instruction bring mathematics and science content knowledge into Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) courses and CTAE applications into mathematics and science instruction.
The model unit/task frameworks of instruction, written by Georgia teachers, integrating mathematics, science and selected CTAE concentration areas serve as examples for high school and middle school teachers. Model frameworks of instruction are available on topics in CTAE concentration areas. The videos in this resource look at different ways to encourage children’s talk in science. Talk helps children to use scientific language effectively and develop their understanding of scientific ideas. Right across the curriculum, talk engages children, motivates them to use their speaking and listening skills and helps them learn how to respect and respond to each other. It reinforces the idea that mistakes can be opportunities for learning, leading children to find their own answers to problems. In science especially, exploratory talk helps children develop their enquiry and reasoning skills. These videos were created in collaboration with Millgate House Education. Graphite: Digital Resources Site Added: Dec 6, 2013 Graphite is a free online portal to help preK-12 educators find, use, and share the best digital apps, games, and websites for their students.
Created by Common Sense Media with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the service contains objective ratings of apps and other digital learning resources from professional reviewers, along with reviews from dozens of “Graphite Educators,” teachers who are hand-picked by Common Sense Media. Graphite provides unbiased reviews of the learning potential of apps developed for a variety of platforms. Users can search for reviews of resources by subject, grade level, cost (free, “freemium,” or paid), and type (app, game, or website).
When you click on a review, it tells you the price, the grade levels the app is most appropriate for, setup time, platforms (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, or Nook HD), and subject areas—with a link to specific standards the app meets. Semantic Feature Analysis. Strategies for Reading ComprehensionSemantic Feature Analysis[Johnson & Pearson, 1984] What Is It?
With a Semantic Feature Analysis chart or grid, one can examine related concepts but make distinctions between them according to particular criteria across which the concepts can be compared. How Does It Work? A set of concepts is listed down the left side (or across the top; it doesn't much matter which) and criteria or features are listed across the top (or down the side).
If the concept is associated with the feature or characteristic, the student records a Y or a + (plus-sign) in the grid where that column and row intersect; if the feature is not associated with the concept, an N or - (minus-sign) is placed in the corresponding square on the grid.
