4th & 5th Grade Science Lesson Plans. Smart Move! - Activity - www.teachengineering.org. New Curriculum Outperforms Traditional Biology Materials. Middle school biology students exposed to new curriculum that makes connections between the physical and life sciences have a better grounding in chemistry once in high school. | Jo Ellen Roseman/AAAS Students using a new middle school curriculum unit developed by Project 2061, AAAS’s long-term science education initiative, had a better understanding of chemistry concepts central to modern biology than students using traditional curriculum materials, according to a newly published study.

New Curriculum Outperforms Traditional Biology Materials

Students who used Project 2061’s Toward High School Biology unit also held far fewer misconceptions about atom rearrangement and conservation during chemical reactions than students in a comparison group, according to the study, published in the December 2016 issue of CBE-Life Sciences Education, an online peer-reviewed journal of the American Society for Cell Biology. Kindergarten Earth Science All About Volcanoes (Reuter 11-12) Let it Snow! Transitional Kindergarten (CRS 14-15) Planet Protectors! STEMscopes. Learn Portal. This NGSS aligned curriculum is designed to support high school physical science students in developing an understanding of the forces and energy involved in atomic and molecular interactions.

The year-long Interactions curriculum could be used in a physical science class, or tweaked to embed activities into a chemistry class. Interactions can be offered as a paper-pencil curriculum with the teacher facilitating web based simulation activities on a classroom computer, or it can be offered completely online for classrooms where students have personal (or shared) computers.

In particular, students will: Develop and use models of interactions at the atomic molecular scale to explain observed phenomena. Develop a model of the flow of energy and cycles of matter for phenomena at macroscopic and sub-microscopic scales. These goals support students in building a foundation that prepares them for explaining and making predictions about important phenomena in all science disciplines.

The three-dimensions may be taught in either a three course sequence (chemistry, biology, and physics) or a four course sequence (chemistry, biology, physics, and capstone science.) Either model insures that all students can demonstrate proficiency with all of the science standards. In this unit of study, energy and matter are studied further by investigating the processes of nuclear fusion and fission that govern the formation, evolution, and workings of the solar system in the universe.

Untitled. Hello, I am very proud to present the teacher-authored instructional unit samples in Science.

Each of these units represents the work of a team of Colorado educators to translate one curriculum overview sample into a full instructional unit with learning experiences, teacher and student resources, assessment ideas, and differentiation options. To learn more about the unit development process and the unique aspects of the Science units, please consider watching one or more of the instructional unit webinars. Each of the units posted here was authored by a team of Colorado educators. As examples, they are intended to provide support (or conversation/creation starting points) for teachers, schools, and districts as they make their own local decisions around the best instructional plans and practices for all students.

ENSI/SENSI: Evolution/Nat.of Sci.Home Page

Scientists and science educators of all stripes — students, postdocs, faculty, and full- or part-time science communicators — are invited to enter the Sixth Annual Evolution Video Competition, sponsored by the Duke Initiative for Science & Society, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the Society for the Study of Evolution (SSE) and the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action.

First- and second-place winners will receive up to $1,000 and $500, respectively. The deadline to submit your video(s) is TUESDAY, MAY 31st, 2016 (11:00 PM, EST).
