Celebrating the Holidays at EA. Since so many of our classes have global partners spread around the world, I thought it would be interesting for our students to document some of our school holiday traditions to share with them. Students in Pre-K, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade all used Google Glass to help capture the magic of the season at Episcopal Academy to help show our global partners how we celebrate the holidays in December.

Check out this video compilation of all of their recordings: What holidays do you celebrate in December and how do you celebrate them at your school? Google Glass: Documenting learning for a global audience. People have been aware of Google Glass for a while now, but how can it work with education? Philadelphia-based school technology coordinator Margaret Powers walks us through her experiences and successes with the device. When I look at Google Glass, I’m not trying to assess whether it’s the hottest tech toy of the year or if the latest press releases about it are accurate. Instead, I am interested in discovering if and how it can be used as a meaningful tool in the classroom. On a daily basis, I work with students ranging from four to eight years old, students who look at the world through a different lens than I do.

I have discovered that Google Glass can provide insight into that world. When I first picked up Google Glass over a year ago at the Google office in New York City, I really was not sure how effective it would be in education. Students have used Glass to capture their work painting, writing, exploring pumpkins and much more!

Applying themes to forms is a great way to personalize and tailor them to their intended audience. With this launch, people working with Google Forms will now be able to apply custom themes to their forms. This includes adding custom images or logos to the header and page background, specifying the font details (type, size, color) and paragraph alignment for the form text, and choosing the color for the form and page backgrounds.

We’ve also refreshed the overall Forms UI and added a brand new gallery of modern default themes. In addition, if a form using a custom theme is shared within a domain, others can copy that theme in order to use it themselves. This helps to ensure a consistent look and feel across forms used in that domain. The service had been in limited preview since May. During that time, according to Google Apps for Education Product Manager Zach Yeskel, more than 100,000 educators applied to be a part of the preview, and "tens of thousands" of those educations — from K-12 schools, colleges and universities — actually participated. Classroom is an LMS that's integrated with Google's Apps for Education productivity suite. Once turned in, assignments are no longer editable by students; however, students can cancel the submission to make any necessary changes, and teachers can also return assignments to students when additional work is required. A young student uses Google Glass to record his work in art class at the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Margaret Powers, who coordinates technology for the private school's youngest students, was selected for Google's Glass Explorer program, which allows people to test the wearable computer. After a recent run of winter weather, kindergarten students at the Episcopal Academy used Google Glass to explain what they know about snowflakes. Powers created a blog, 365 Days of Glass, to record how students and educators at the school are using the product. This is a guest post from Chris Barrett, the founder of startup marketing firm PRserve.com and a frequent writer on Google Glass. I conceived the idea behind Sunshade, the first hardware add-on for better visibility with Google Glass, during my first summer with the buzzy wearable technology.

I realized pretty quickly that the Glass prism allows you to interact with its software by projecting transparent graphics, which are heavily and easily diluted against sunlight. Outdoors, I found myself frequently using my thumb to cover the back of the prism, to provide the necessary contrast I needed to see Glass clearly. Indoors, I caught myself turning away from windows and staring at walls, just to see what I was doing. Print your own Sunshade through Shapeways (at cost) here. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started brainstorming solutions with tech-savvy friends. The more I used my own Sunshade, the more I realized its hidden potential. How To Save Gmail Messages To Google Drive. Aug August 24, 2013 | 1 Comment When it comes to communicate with people you can find many tools in internet. My favorite tool is Google Drive. With Google Drive it is very easy to manage files and avoid e-mails going back and forth (like the ones you see in the above picture).

But in a broad sense e-mailing is still the most preferred method. 1) Click on an e-mail. Please note that this process won’t print or save your attachments to Google Drive. Google+ With motors, batteries, and Glass, women make stuff at Google I/O. They came to build. At the Women Techmakers event at Google I/O, over 100 women developers gathered for some great Google food--and the chance to turn a littleBits kit into a working design. But first, a casual Glass census: Melissa Riofrio “I’ve had mine for nine months,” said this Google developer relations staffer. “We’re both Google developers.” “I’ve had mine for about a month.

Then, onto the work at hand: Groups of four to six women had an hour to build a device from the provided littleBits extended kits and present it to the other groups. The littleBits extended kits contain 14 small modules that attach via magnets to provide electrical or mechanical capabilities. In addition to the kits, groups could raid tables piled high with craft and building supplies: Lego bricks, pipe cleaners, ping pong balls, construction paper, marker pens. The goal: Make something. Full disclosure: A few people gave up on the modules and just had fun with the craft materials. I asked the children how they thought the Glass... Bringing people together in Drive. More often than not, you need to work with others to get things done. Today, working together in Drive is getting even easier with new profile pictures and one-click group chat.

Now when you open a file in Drive, you’ll see the profile pictures of other viewers at the top instead of just their names, making it easy for you to do a quick scan of who else is in the file. You can hover over a photo to see details about the viewer and add them to your circles on Google+ — all without ever leaving Drive. In addition, you can now start a group chat with just one click. Simply select the new chat button at the top right and a chat box will appear, making it easy for you to quickly message everyone in the file. These new features will roll out over the next day or two, and we’ll be adding support for more file types (like Google Sheets) soon, so stay tuned.

Google Glass is finally here: Tech specs released, first units shipped. Google recommends recharging the kit with with the Micro USB cable and charger it supplies with Glass.

The display resolution is the "equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from eight feet away", but Google is being no more specific than that. The head mountable device comes with 16GB Flash onboard storage of which 12GB of is useable and is synced with Google cloud storage. Glass connectivity options include the wi-fi standard 802.11b/g and Bluetooth. Glass has an adjustable nosepad and extra nosepads in two sizes. Glass is not for everyone either. Google Takes Street View Into the Oceans - Rebecca J. Rosen. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads! Catlin Seaview Survey In the five years since Google Street View launched in 2007, the feature has been a strictly above-ground experience. Sure, it has occasionally left the comfort of the open road for a river (as when it visited the Amazon) or an icy expanse (as when it documented the remote sites of Antarctica), but never has it taken us down below, into the waters that cover 70 percent of our planet. Today, Google has announced a new addition to Street View that does just that, providing "street" view access to six of the world's most beautiful underwater landscapes.

A video from Google gives a quick taste of the experience of diving in via your computer: The project -- made possible through a partnership with the Catlin Seaview Survey -- will give Google users a chance to swim around the Great Barrier Reef, Hawaii's Molokini Crater, its Hanauma Bay, and Apo Islands in the Philippines.
