Healthy Chocolate Truffles. Cocoa-Oat Truffles. Red Velvet Rice Krispies Treats Hearts for Valentine's Day - StumbleUpon. You may have noticed I share a lot of Rice Krispies Treats, especially around the holiday. Can you blame me though? They’re sweet, gooey and oh-so-good! And these red velvet treats are to die for! Had it not been for my kiddos little sweet happy fingers, I wouldn’t have found the restraint to not eat them all.

If you’re making these to just eat, no need to get fancy but if you’re making them for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to check out Wilton’s selection of cookie cutters. In a small jelly roll pan you can press the treats thin enough to cut with the heart shaped cutters. With a piping bag (or plastic sandwich bag) you can frost these with pretty designs in a cream cheese frosting that makes them even sweeter. Share ‘em, eat ‘em, whatever you do, don’t leave them unattended and expect to find anything left but crumbs left over.

I can’t decide which was more fun this week: making the truffles or corresponding with Eric “Johnny” Battles, chocolatier and founder of Sweeteeth in North Charleston, South Carolina. I was so curious when Johnny offered a series of flavors, none of which I had ever considered pairing with chocolate. As luck would have it, Grace, Amy and I all chose the same three flavors from Johnny’s list, and that’s what we’re bringing to you this week, a trio of truffles: Rosemary and Vanilla Bean, Star Anise and Rose-Peppercorn, and Toasted Coriander Truffles. I thought featuring something easy and unique that could function as a gift would be great. An assortment of truffles is what my husband plans to give his family members . . . if he doesn’t eat them all first.

I plan to do my own experimenting using Johnny’s base recipe. If you make these or experiment with your own flavor combinations, let us know! — Kristina Each recipe makes approximately 40 to 50 truffles, depending on size Preparation 1. Ryza Sweet Quinoa Porridge Recipe. Chocolate-Cherry Ice Dream. Warmer weather has arrived, bringing with it my craving for ice cream, which seems to go into remission over the winter but comes back with a vengeance when the temp goes over 80.

I don’t own an ice cream maker, and I when I get near the vegan ice cream section of the grocery store, I look the other way, so when the craving for a decadent frozen treat hits, I have only one recourse: Pull out the frozen fruit and get to blending! My daughter E says I’ve become “too weird” lately because I’ve been putting greens into my frozen desserts. I like the idea of getting a little extra nutrition in my daily dose of decadence, but I leave the spinach out when E’s partaking because she says she doesn’t believe in blended vegetables.

(My rejoinder, “I don’t believe in the Easter Bunny, but you still get a basket of candy every year,” doesn’t impress her.) Honestly, if she would just give it a try, she would never notice the spinach in this chocolate-cherry treat. Ingredients Instructions Notes. Buttery Apple Streusel Oat Squares. Greetings! Luckily my mother-in-law warned me of an impending storm today (we might get a tornado tonight!) , so that was inspiration to get in the run I was procrastinating all morning. I had a great 4.5 mile run in about 38 mins and a balmy 18C temperature. We are having a heat wave this week and it was so nice to run in the warm weather, even if it was raining. As for the tornado warning, I’m hoping it doesn’t get that ugly! In other news, I’m madly in love with these Healthy Strawberry Oat Squares.

Crazy, in that I had to put them in the freezer immediately so I didn’t eat them all and I should probably be committed or better yet, in a straitjacket. Eric and I have been enjoying a square after dinner each night and we arm wrestled over the last square. It wasn’t pretty, but in the end he split it with me. ;) As soon as I made the strawberry jam squares, my mind was flooded with ways that I could adapt them… Up second: Apple Streusel. Yummy.
