A Tour of the Bus | Hank Bought A Bus. In architecture school I was tired of drawing buildings that would never exist, for clients that were imaginary, and with details I didn’t fully understand. I prefer to work with my hands, exploring details thoroughly, and enjoy working/prototyping at full scale. So for my Masters Final Project I decided to buy a school bus and convert it into a tiny living space. This was only possible because I was fortunate enough to have an instructor, Adam Marcus, who encourages working at full scale, and allowed me take on such an ambitious and unorthodox project. The bus was purchased on Craigslist for $3000, and has had about $6000 in improvements. It’s not pocket change, but it’s less than a down payment on a home, and it’s less than I paid in tuition for my last semester of grad school. It’s not an original premise, but I don’t feel the opportunities have been explored very thoroughly and I wanted to show people the the potential in converting an existing vehicle.

It's a RV studio, so I decided to focus on the East Asian market. Without knowing the budget, I think it would be safe to say that ideas must be centered on getting this off the ground with the least amount of money involved. The way I see it there are two ideas here: 1.

A permanent home, 2. And or a mobile touring exhibition. My first ideas will focus on the mobile touring exhibition. I feel this idea will have the biggest bang for the buck. Not only will our history reach the general public, if done right this traveling exhibition may bring back some legacy fans and alumni and at the same time create new fans of our Activity. 1. 2. 3. 4. I think we all can agree that we must save our history for the younger generations.

I think it would be nice if somehow this drum corps museum was tied to the American Legion building. I was there doing research back in '92. Where RV Now? Solar Power. If you're looking for my Solar Power Calculator, click here to jump to it. We realized quite early on – before we even had an RV, actually – that we wanted solar panels. The lure of clean, silent electricity from the sun, including the implication of freedom from electric hookups, was undeniable. This desire transformed itself into a genuine need after we hit the road. Time and again we found ourselves far from "the grid" but with me needing to be online for work, necessitating lots of noisy, smelly usage of our camper's LP generator. Solar panels were indeed the obvious answer. I then started hunting around for prices on the Internet.

Looking through their websites, I soon decided that a pair of 56" x 26" (1425mm x 652mm), 120-watt Kyocera modules would fit nicely into the spaces I'd picked out. More than panels are required for a solar power system, however. You also need a solar charge controller (sometimes called a charge regulator) to keep the panels from overcharging your battery. Opportunity: [1]Identified - [2]Understood - [3]Conceptualized - [4]Realized - Team Video Introduction This is a product design project: there wasn't much engineering done until the very end, most of it was spent understanding potential users and their needs. My team took a fresh look at Recreational Vehicles, with the goal of appealing to additional buyers and moving the industry forward.

We discovered the interior of an RV to be largely isolated from its surroundings to the point of claustrophobia. Users would not sacrifice their privacy, but clearly wanted a sense of exposure to the elements of nature from within their enclosed space. A concept RV design embodied our ideas: "Selective Skylight" and "Akimbo Booth" I performed much of the final engineering and took part in the research leading up to it. Selective Skylight Skylights are sorely missed by many RV users - who wouldn't want to fall asleep under the stars?

There is no better way to reach underserved audiences than to drive directly to them. Mobile museums, in converted RVs or semi-trailers, are delivering history, science and art experiences. Here are two great examples. History Reaching rural audiences for $10.71 per visitor, the “Van of Enchantment” brings cultural history to schools and public events in New Mexico — at no cost to visitors. New Mexico’s rich history traces back at least 11,000 years, and includes a flourishing Pueblo community in the 13th century, Spanish conquistadors and colonists in the 16th century, and railroads in the late 19th century. The van’s current exhibition is “Riding the Rails,” which explores the Santa Fe Trail trade route between Mexico and the United States from 1821 to 1848, the start of railroads into New Mexico in 1880, and the new Railrunner Express commuter train.

They need a van because New Mexico is vast. Reaching the general public Reaching students Funding and operations Science Origins Other trucks. Google Image Result for. Tiny House Design. Maintence, movement remain the key on cruise ships theatres. As cruise ships continue to grow in size and number, the theatres built for them do, too. Despite such changes, however, some basic rigging challenges remain. On larger ships, the theatre's fly tower is three or four decks (30' to 40') high, 20' to 30' deep, and 25' to 40' wide, typically with a mixture of scenery battens, lighting trusses (fixed or motorized), curtain tracks, and scenic roll drops.

Most stages have some limited backstage or wing space, although some do have wide wings or rear stage scene dock areas. Notably, the Princess Grand class ships have deep wings either side of the stage; the full width of the stage, including wings, is about 100', a surprise to many who see it for the first time. The stage will typically have a proscenium opening, possibly with a thrust stage or an orchestra pit with a lift, or it might be more open.

Stage revolves are common, as are stage lifts; sometimes these are combined with lifts built into the revolve. Contemporary Japanese Home Design, M Mansion by BAKOKO. BAKOKO, an international design studio based in Tokyo, Japan has done great transformation to typical concrete ‘mansion’ apartment blocks into a contemporary Japanese home. Dubbed as M Mansion, this Japanese home design nestled in an eastern Tokyo suburb of Matsudo City, only 30 minutes by train from the city center. This refurbishment project was completed on a modest budget, proving that refurbishing existing properties is still an affordable proposition here. The small 37m² (400ft²) unit was divided into two Japanese-style rooms with tatami (reed mat) flooring separated by paper (fusuma) sliding screens and a western kitchen. Whilst being perfectly quaint and cozy, this type of interior was simply made for a different generation.

An open plan arrangement was sought, but with space in short supply retaining certain traditional Japanese features also made sense.
